Hatcher and Ratliff are 3 technique types

I think these two should rotate out, to keep Ratliff fresh. So who is the starting 1 technique?

Ratliff seems like a 3-tech, but he did play Zero-tech which is more of a wide-body position than the 1-tech.

Lissemore played some Zero-tech last year.

Rob Callaway (6-5, 324) played a few snaps at the Zero last year and looked ok for a guy with no experience.

Got a feeling the 1's will be Hatcher and Lissemore and the 3's Ratliff and Price.

One of the bigger guys will be the 5th DT and and Crawford will be the position flex guy spelling the 3T and RDE.

Ratliff has been a 0 or 1 tech since he started playing full time for us. Why would that change?

I agree that Rat will probably spend a lot of time at 1 tech this year. But I still look at him as a nice fit as a Kiffin 3 tech - quick, explosive penetrator.

I worry about Lissemore as a 1 tech. I thought he struggled last year late in the year at NT when everyone else was hurt/suspended. He looked overmatched at times against the run at NT. Maybe the scheme change will help him. I just worry that the 1 tech is the weakest link on the line with our personnel.

Ratliff will be a 1. He's got experience playing over the nose and taking on double teams. That's where he'll play. He's the perfect 1 in a Kiffin defense.

Hatcher will be a 3, but he'll only be average at it. He doesn't have the first step of an elite 3 tech.

Because his production has declined. I think we would all agree that allowing him to get up the field and take advantage of his freakish acceleration would be the best option for him. Putting him in a spot where he is getting doubled all the time isn't really taking advantage of his strengths.

Let Ratliff loose as the 3-Tech, he is best in this scenario IMO.

If we had a capable body to play the 1 I'd agree.

Ratliff is by far the most capable 1 we have. And that's where he'll play. This is one of the reasons I wanted a DL in the draft.

I was pretty confident I'd heard Rat would be playing the 3, but now I can't recall where I'd heard it, so I guess it doesn't really count.

Price is a one if we can get him healthy. He was drafted to do that for Tampa beside McCoy who is a great three. Hatcher can't play the one. He is taller and skinnier than any I can think of

I should not be surprised if Crawford is our 2014 three .

This would be my preference as well
If he stays healthy he could really thrive there

Rat and hatcher playing the 3 could be sick with a good 1 next to them

Price might be the wild card if healthy

If we're putting our best 11 on the field, it requires Ratliff to play 1 tech.

People need to learn more about the tampa 2.

One defensive tackle plays 3 technique, and the other position can be anywhere from 0-3.

That has nothing to do with the Tampa 2 coverage. That has to do with the front. Kiffin runs an under front, meaning 1 and 3.
