He will be in the mix to be a backup DT in camp. They say he has the potential to beef up another 30 lbs and could really be a force on the interior of the line once he learns the ropes.

Kinda hard to be 3-4 DT when you are 6'7".

Chris Canty is 6'7". In the 3-4, the DEs act more like DTs.

That said, he's got decent speed and some pass rush skills. Maybe they plan on trimming him down to play OLB?

Or did someone from the Cowboys already say he'll be a DT/DE?

Let's just say we drafted ANOTHER "developmental" player.

I'm sure he would have been available tomorrow. :bang2:

Does anyone think Ellis is gone? Hatcher projects really well as a 3-4 DE. He is big, fast, and strong. I don't know much about him, so I wasn't happy with the pick. Ellis might be traded to Houston for their top 4th and 6th. Then we could take Max Jean Guilles. With the extra 6 and 7th rounders, Dallas can move up to nab Jon Scott. If we can somehow get these two guys in the 4th than our draft can be saved!!

The plan with Hatcher is add weight to him.

The Boys seem to think he's an in shape Gabe Watson.

Goose had him rated 88th and we took him at 92nd so I dont consider it a reach by any means. Peculiar, yes. reach, no.

Wasn't Hatcher quoted as saying the Saints were taking him with the second pick in the 4th round?

Yep, in his interview on the Ticket

Reminds me of JJ jumping up to take QC because he was afraid the Raiders would take him.

If the Saints wanted Hatcher, let them have him. Why over-react and take a player too early just because another team covets him???

He was ranked 88 and taken 92, how was that too early?

If he has the frame to add 30lbs, how much of that should we expect to see this year if any?

And did anybody of importance say that we were projecting him at DT, or is this just speculation?

Because I would feel alot better about the pick if that were the case. He would be a back up this year seeing limited time and then hopefully be up to speed and weight/strength next year.

Because this is not a QC type of pick and the Cowboys are not passing on a Shaun Rogers type player in order to select Hatcher.

I just made this observation elsewhere: there were a total of 13 defensive linemen ( 5 defensive tackles, 8 defensive ends ), including 2 so called defensive ends who are more LBs than DEs, taken out of the first 97 picks ( 3 rounds ) in the draft.

Has that ever happened in any other draft ?

Heck, there have been drafts where 13 defensive linemen were taken in the first round alone, and that's without including some LBs who would be considered DE's today, so what does that tell you ?

The potential talent level in this draft is so weak that " reaching " for a player like Hatcher in the 3rd round doesn't really have much effect since what's left on the board is not considerably better, potentially speaking.

ranked 88th by a journalist, even one that's good at it, doesn't mean he's the 88th best player available.

Ranked 88 by a journalist that talks to scouts from every team and is every year at the top of his profession in having his rankings correct. That means something.

Obviously Parcells believes he was at least the 92 best player
