I do not have the energy to look it up and was hoping some of our resident stat nerds might know.

No we have not.

The only opportunity we had we screwed the pooch versus Arizona.

Come Sunday, I expect this to change.

NFL teams with chance to beat opponent 3 times in the same season

Those teams are 11-6. Here are the previous matchups, with the team that won both regular-season games listed first, along with the postseason result:

Nope. We lost at Philly in 1992 and 1995.

No. In 1998 Dallas swept Arizona in the regular season - but were eliminated by the Cards in the Wildcard Round of the playoffs. Since 1977, the other three times Dallas met an Intra-Divisional opponent (1995, 1992, and 1980 - Philly all three times) for a third time in the playoffs - the two teams had split their regular season games.

That loss to the Cards still makes me  I think that was their only playoff win post WWII.

i read an espn article earlier today that we have never beaten a team 3 times a season. in fact, when facing a team three times a season, the average chance of a sweep is 21%.

Since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970, teams have played three games in the same season 53 times, but only 17 of those included teams that won both regular-season matchups, according to STATS Inc. In 11 of those 17 games, the team that won the first two games also won the third, the last time by St. Louis over Seattle in 2004

That is a good thing then. Because the odds of doing the same thing back to back -- playoff wise -- are small.

this is misleading, because this is assuming that all three games haven't been played yet.

For example:

Team A plays against Team B 3 times.

Team A vs Team B -- Team A Wins.
Team A @ Team B -- Team B Wins.
Team A vs. Team B -- Team A Wins.

I'm guessing that they're also counting that scenario in their 3 times a season thing. That's gonna skew the results.

See if you can find the stats for winning all three games after already having won 2 games.

The Cards I shudder to say we lost to 3 times in a year. Because it was embarrassing to say it then and it is worse to have to repeat it.

I'm glad we beat them twice. That means they aren't sure of how to beat us, and I like that. :D
