Having 3 starting running backs is pointless when

Having 3 backs is not pointless.......ever.

2nd that.

Yeah, all the problems this team has and the fact that we have 3 RB's that can come in and deliver is a real problem. One is hurt, you have two more. Two are hurt you have one more.

Crisis.

Yes, but he also has a few healthy years under his belt. He's finished a season.

Newman played all 16 games his first 4 yrs in the league, then had 2 seasons with an injury and missed some games, yet the same argument you made didnt apply to him did it? They call him injury prone.

Oh I get it... this was a joke.

Having 3 starting running backs is pointless when:

- the rest of the team doesnt show up for the game
- our defense is on the field
- there is no game scheduled for that day
- Romo is working with an empty backfield

:laugh1:

it's not "pointless" it's called quality DEPTH. Something we don't have much of on this team.

Tashard is the only only one proven he can stay healthy so I say we have to keep him.
I'm not sure 6 carries a game is proving you can stay healthy.

I see where the OP is coming from, but having all 3 is needed IMO.

In the first year of having all 3, we were quickly reduced to only 1 for a few weeks last year when Choice had to carry the load with Barber and Jones hurt. Now with only 2 rb's, God forbid that both of them would get hurt and all of a sudden we have no one back there.

Your a slightly above average football team. Hear me out before you gather an opinion. Having 3 backs like we have is a luxury and only when your loaded at every position should you keep all three. We need to move one of them as they are a major asset. Tashard is the only only one proven he can stay healthy so I say we have to keep him. Felix is a change of pace back and we need to keep him. That leaves Barber. I hate to say it but there are only so many times you can hand the ball off and still win. When all three are healthy and we run the ball 30x a game on average and Barber gets 17 of them, Felix gets 8-9 and Tashard gets 4 or 5. Well, how is our team benefiting from having an NFL quality starter only getting the ball 4 times? That's like being a 9-7/8-8 team and having Romo, Matt Schaub and a young guy like Matt Ryan as our qb's. Why would you keep all three if you could trade one for a decent price. Barber will have worth to this following team who can not get a yard when they need it, the Texans. Barber for Cushings???? Just a suggestion. Opinions overall

I disagree. Completely.

Barber is the heart and soul of the offense. Period. You don't trade a guy who brings that to this offense.

Felix isn't going anywhere cause of what he could bring if he can stay healthy. Choice is staying cause he's a quality player who can be replied upon.

It's not like you'd get a huge amount from any of them because most teams run out multiple backs and feel they can get quality guys to do that in the draft each year.

I generally agree with your point. The Cowboys aren't perfect, and could use an upgrade at a few positions. If we trade M. Barber, the Cowboys RB tandem of Choice and Jones would still be one of the better RB groups in the league and they would get a upgrade at another position.
Then when one of them gets hurt there isn't a tandem at all.

Two things...

No team is loaded at every position.

Texans will not trade Cushing for a RB. They have Slaton and Brown and they don't suck.

I am afraid that with MBIII getting dinged the last 2 years, and Felix seems, to this point in his career, not to be able to stay on the field we don't in fact have 3 RB's.

I would agree.
Assuming the Cowboys would stop having injuries.
That won't happen, right? So we need three quality RBs.

But I appreciate your opinion.

Doesn't/ Does

Yes it does. A player can become injury prone. usually happens when they get older. Felix is just injury prone full stop.

What point are you trying to make?

It's salary cap football. No team is perfect.

So you gotta keep your depth at a position that you drafted well at.

Trading any of our backs would be a bad idea. I love having three starting quality RB's. The benefit is that even with the 1st and 2nd string RB's injured, we still have a starting quality RB to carry the load and the offense doesn't miss a beat.

Would you rather go back to the days where if Emmitt was out, the team had to rely on the likes of Sherman Williams? I don't think so.

But with Felix always getting hurt, we'd be down to one. Felix hasn't shown an ability to stay healthy, and this is year two with Marion missing games, so we're not really that stacked when you think about it. We're an injury away from being decimated at RB, with these guys.

Not this crap again. Its not killing the Cowboys to have 3 backs and frankly anything we get in return for these guys isn't going to be equal value. Just leaves the backs alone. I guess it was pointless for the Dolphins, Giants, Pathers and Titans last year to have 3 backs who can play. You're an injury away from just having 2 backs and btw I don't know if you've noticed but we only have one healthy back as of right now.

It's not all about how much a back brings to the rushing attack. When Felix Jones and/or Tashard Choice can pass block as well as Marion Barber, Barber's value within the offense will lessen. If and until that occurs, the "Sit Or Trade Barber" campaign will simply be spinning its wheels.
