Height has nothing to do with how much weight a player can pack on, its all about a player's bone structure and body structure. An OT and a WR can both be 6'5". Does that mean that the WR still has the frame to add more weight and go play OT if he wants to? Of course not. The WR is going to have a much more narrow frame than the OT, who is most likely going to be as wide as a city bus. You are right that it is all in the player's DNA as to who can pack on that mass and who can't, but you don't need a DNA sample to see which players can and can't. Any well-seasoned eye should be able to look at a player and tell what his body structure is, and what type of weight he'd be most effective at.

You're wasting your time suggesting on trying to explain it to "Bob".

His whole point of view on this height/weight thing is ridiculously simple-- it's something an 8 year old would say.

Does he have heart?

He plays hard, but high. He is strong, but I did question all the weight he put on in the last 3 years. He was a 6'6 218 lb forward walk on for the basketball team, then decided that football was the way to go. June Jones said that it was the first time he had committed to a weight program and that explained hiw gains. His size is very good for a DE, but our other DE, Mel Purcell played much better the last 3 years. He may not look as good as Ikaika, but is a much better DE even during the switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Mel was dominant at times, where Ikaika never was consistantly a monster.

That's probably his grandfather......if he QB in 1957 Rose Bowl, that would make him about 80 years old right now.

I read somewhere that Russ Francis had a son who was a prospect this year. I remember Russ was from and lived in Hawaii.

That puts him in his early 70s, which is still old for a father of a son in his early 20s.

If he has indeed gained 50 lbs over the last two years I would have doubts that he could put much more effective weight on his frame. He may be able to get bigger, but it may take away some of his abilities.

of course not is right, but I'm talking about adding 10-20lbs here, not 80-100

you're right, but a 6'5" 20 something year old, who is already 276-280, can get up to 290-300lbs. because of his tall-frame

3-4 teams are gonna ask Ikaika to bulk up some if they are going to play him as a 3-4 DE, just like NFL teams are gonna ask Joe Staley to bulk up from 306

btw, a 276lb man already has a slower metabolism as opposed to a 190-200lb player, the metabolism of the player plays a role too
