Parsons should be at DE on clear pass downs, but not on run downs.

He was already talking about getting run down last year. He's not DLaw and should not be used like DLaw. He's more like a 3-4 OLB of the past, but in our new pass happy NFL with only 2 LBs in the base, he ends up lined up at an ILB spot.

Although he's unlike previous era 3-4 OLBs in that he can really cover too.

If they think they should limit his snaps, then limit the LB snaps. He's already limited to 80%.

But he has great value at LB with the option to blitz and cover, with few if any in the league who can match him in that role. With another DE stepping up in the pass rush, Parons in that option role may be our strongest personnel package.
Fair, I have been labeling him a linebacker because that makes the whole scheme more aggressive and can counter things like crashing in safeties in coverages.

He is the aggressive night mare who will show up more this season as he worked on technique, size, and aggressive nature. He has to get some rotation through the game but the season is 17 games and he'll have to be on the sidelines for quick recoveries and build non-stop to the playoffs. His drive for this unit until they take the stage following the regular season!

What worries me is the offense. Who cares if you average 30 PPG if you can't score more than 12 against a good defense. You score 50 against a bad defense, and 10 against a good D, you average 30 ppg but still suck.

That said I have confidence we'll break from that trend. There are no more elite defenses. We should be able to put points up against the good ones.
Well you can't leave out the fact that's happens on defense as well,

it's a game of averages and a 17 game season....

I mean, did they not start looking shaky in the middle of the season blowing 14 and 17, 4 quarter leads on the road, that we should have won those games??

the offense gave them the points and they blew it, look at all the yards they gave up on the ground to teams like the Chicago Bears and some other ones this isn't A one sided debate here.

Both sides of the ball and add in special teams and coaching all had their weak moments throughout the season.. So when you work together as a team that's what you have to do you have to prop up the other side when they're not having a good day that happens all over sports. If a pitcher gives up five runs in the first inning, then you got to try like hell to get those back plus hold that other team to no more the rest of the game than you win no one's going to be talking about how bad that picture was in the first inning when you win the game.

Our defense may have not given up a lot of points the last two playoff games against the 49ers but they sure gave up some long drives with a lot of run yards and some big plays here and there enough to where Trayvon diggs doesn't make the two he should have,

a championship defense makes those plays.

When you start seeing field goals missed, you start seeing extra points missed, you seeing balls bobbled you seeing a runner take a ball out on a kickoff, that he should have just put a knee down all that stuff adds up in a game when you lose by one score, not just go to the offense and say they didn't score enough points.

If the two defensive tackles get tired and the safeties keep coming up, there could be a weakness that shows up in secondary coverages.
2 DT's may get bigger shares of time than others, but DT's almost certainly will be in a rotation of some kind.

Not much different than it looks now is my answer.
Well we would’ve stopped the run better last year and he’d be the best LB on the team going into this year and no one would be saying we are thin at LB…

I don't disagree that the defense could be shaky at times. I just worry about the offense more. You could blame the offense as much as the D in those comebacks. After the Cowboys scored 28 they did nothing. Nothing the entire 4th quarter, and nothing in OT against the Packers. In that 17 point Jags comeback, an interception gave them 7 points and momentum. Interceptions almost cost us a game against Houston, and allowed Chicago to come back. So yeah, I am more worried about the offense.

The defense almost stole that SF game. Diggs needed to catch that ball and they might have. It has gotten better too. This will be a top 5 defense for sure.
You really think the offense could have taken the ball down field if Diggs had intercepted that pass?

No if you put up that many points and you give a defense that big league great defenses win those games every time I'm sorry but we're talking about this being a championship team worthy of a possible moniker like a name like the doomsday defense 2.0 and everyone keeps saying it's all on the offense all throughout the middle of the year the defense blue leads you can keep trying to point it towards the offense but when you're handed a big lead in the fourth quarter that is when the great defenses are supposed to bow up and not give up a single point after I mean it literally you're handed 15 minutes 17 point lead, go close it out.. I remember the game and I don't care it happens but what I do care about is people keep saying that in the Cisco game they didn't score enough points well even when we scored enough points we lost games because of the defense..

So at this point I'm saying right now we are way overrating the defense and putting too much blame on the offense because there were signs all last year that the defense was great in stretches but they also had a lot of stretches where they weren't so great ....the offense were forced to go out and be more risky and try to score more points and even when they scored those points the defense was not shutting teams down.

Again,

great defense you hand them a lead like that they're supposed to shut the other team down, you get aggressive you pin your ears back, you flat out dictate the rest of the game!

that is the offensive job you give the defense a lead in the fourth quarter and they should be able to close it out..

So let's hope all this drooling over the defense it's for good cause this year to actually they are who we say they are because all the love for Dan Quinn the one thing I know he is famous for when he was with the Atlanta Falcons is blowing leads including the Super bowl.

his teams were blowing leads last year, not shutting down a team when they had the chanace.... So let's just keep it in the fourth quarters if you get double digit leads in the fourth quarter or you're even somehow failed and you're in overtime you've got to make stops and you got to shut the other team down if you want to be called great,

you want to be called a championship defense and that's what people keep talking about around here how great the defense was and what I remember about the 2 niner games is really long drives on the ground couple big plays giving up opportunities NOT taken advantage of and Trayvon diggs who just got a big bag..

so this defense is still not arrived is what I'm saying they have their moments but they are still susceptible to being run on or giving up big leads and you don't get a name like a doomsday defense or whatever the 2000 Ravens teams was called or even the way the New York Giants with Eli Manning somehow at quarterback just absolutely shutting teams down in the playoffs they were scary.

The defense might be on their way there but they are not quite there yet to be putting all the blame on the offense. Yes more of the issues last year against the 49ers were on the offensive side but there were moments in that game if the defense wanted to make their mark and be who they say they wanna be they needed to make those plays.

The San Francisco Franchise has returned from their fall out following the 1990's. They were every bit a tough team to beat then. They ran a string of 8 - 10+ win seasons together. Well here and now, they are again the same level of strength that they were back in the 1990's.

It appears that the Cowboys are positioned to do similarly, but must face Philadelphia elevated again, as well.

Your appraisal is right on target. The entire squad must thrown in and drive together, in a game. The locker room better be team building and led by McCarthy.

Beat the 49'ers and Eagles. GO COWBOYS! :starspin:

Defense still has to be better at contaiing running quarterbacks like Hurts, etc.

Depth at linebacker will be tested, if for once Dallas has some luck there it would help but you can't count on luck....

Another low IQ American that uses the Word Hater.

I am fully aware of The Point He is making . . . He is building a Straw Man to blame the Defense for the eventual collapse

Its tiring and sad . . .

So your stance is you have a feeling he will decline this year?

I stand with current results and he was a 2nd team All Pro last year with numbers that dwarf any off ball LB on this roster. I don't know how you can't call that an upgrade.
Because Opinions are like Butt holes . . . everyone Has One and Most are full of crap

I would rather score slightly less points and eat up more clock. If you have a scoring drive of a minute and a half you have to give the ball back with a limited time for the defense to rest. Multiply that by 17 games and you get a defense that is too fatigued to elevate their game a few notches in time for the playoffs.

Yes, the Cowboys were impressive in their scoring but they also produced some of the undesirable numbers. They were tied for 8th place in number of turnovers. The Cowboys defense was on the field for the 7th most plays.

The Cowboys need to slow the game down with a successful running attack. This also creates less situations where they must throw under less than optimum circumstances. It gives the defense more rest. .A higher percentage of running plays should also produce less turnovers and less penalties.

In the end, the only numbers the Cowboys should focus on producing is wins.
This is the Big Advantage Cooper gives the team over Dak "The Stat" Prescott

Don't want a repeat of the Demarcus Ware situation, he was a great outside linebacker who rushed the passer a lot, then he was put at mainly defensive end and he began to get hurt and his production dropped off. Parsons said he was trying to bulk up, but unless he has added or can add another 20 pounds or more, he'll still have trouble handling 300+ pound OTs if he's at DE most of the time, and keeping that weight on during a long season is very difficult.

Putting him at DE most of the time is fine, but his effectiveness is enhanced if he is moved around so the offense doesn't know where he's coming from on every play.

Just my 3 cents worth (inflation, ya know)...
