Per sportstalk 980, the sports station for all major sports in and around DC, Shawn Springs was talking about how Greg Williams and the staff were "simplifying" the defensive scheme alot now. " We are going to run alot of cut and dry plays; Cover-1, Cover-3, plays that are going to put alot of the Defensive backs and Cornerbacks in single coverage."

While this isn't exactly ground-breaking news, It shows A) the players are too dumb or badly coached to work within Williams' former system and B) TO and Glenn are going to have alot more opportunities to smoke Springs and Rogers, easier said that done since this game isn't exactly a touch-tag game on thanksgiving.... That being said it is going to be fun to watch. I guess that means the Skins are going to try and bring pressure upfront with more players because they know the D-line stinks on ice.

Slow times that I have to post this.

I don't think it necessarily speaks about there intelligence but it may be a sign that they feel they will need to blitz to get pressure...which of course could leave the secondary in man coverage...if I had to bet I would bet they plan on bringin the house on just about everyplay

Sounds like the Cowboys from last year. Enjoy the "burnt toast" monikers, Deadskins fans!

That is one of the reasons I love the L. Davis signing, a good O-line beats the blitz everytime

Now that the Skins have a more talented secondary, they are able to use a lot more single-coverage instead of elaborate blitz schemes. What a shock!

It seemed in the past our D was simplified for years....so I dont know if the skins players are any dumber then ours.

It might be close, if Taylor and Portis didn't drag their collective intellect down so far.

Yuck! Poor you, having to listen to that all day! I don't miss living in DC and hearing to those homers talk about how the Redksins are going to the Superbowl every year during the preseason. They did usually get pretty funny around the tenth game of the season though, since the skins have gone in the tank more times than not from 2000 on. Then it was that the sky was falling and that the everyone should be fired, cut, etc. Always to the extreme.

As bad as people make the Dallas media and talk radio out to be, they at least make attempts at being realistic with their expectations.

Well, it is pretty funny to be honest. :laugh2:

A year ago all the sportstalk hosts and fans were SO high and mighty about the playoff win and "new and imporved team"; now it is like the Commanders are the elephant in the room that nobody like to talk about.... They hardly mention them. Even the sportstalk hosts have the skins going 7-9 at the best, but for the most time they even pick on the skins about how bad the decision making is in the FA and the coaching staff. I honestly laugh.

Whenever a cowboys' fan calls in, all they mention is that gimme game that they won last season and their record against us the past two seasons. That is all they have going for them.

That was what I was thinking to some degree.

The defense is going to be reading and reacting more, and we saw how that worked out in big-D... but we had the more talented D. It should be fun to watch with the players they have. :laugh2:

Sounds more like the Cowboys D of Bill Parcells first season.

Where did you get that from? We're actually going to a 3-technique for the linemen (think the 4-3 version of a 1-gap), so it's more of an attacking scheme rather then a read and react. It's different from the Cowboys 06 scheme in just about every way possible.

Anyways, didn't Phillips say he scheme was simple and easy to understand and it won't take very long to catch on??? Yet, I'm hearing that it's still very effective, according the collective opinion of the Zone. Simple doesn't equal ineffective.

Ummm I was talking about the defense under BP compared to the Defensive scheme planned to be used by Greg Williams and the 'Skins, not the current system we are installing under Wade Phillips.

Yes, I realize that is what your talking about. And I know that your wrong. The 07 Skins defense is totally different from the Parcells 06 Cowboys defense. How so? Let me count the ways.

2 gap "read and react" vs. 3 technique "attacking scheme"- The Skins were playing a read and react scheme, or 2-gap, in 06 and is switching to a 3-technique for the DTs which is an attacking scheme similar to the Wade Phillips' 1-gap.

Cover-2 vs. Cover-1 - Dallas played Roy Williams back in deep coverage a lot with Watkins thus playing a cover-2. Williams has said that he is switching from a cover-2 to a cover-1, using Landry closer to the LOS to play the run and shorter zones.

3 LBs vs. 4 - Theres a basic difference in Parcells' defense and Williams'. One's a 3-4 and the other's a 4-3. Parcells relied on the two OLBs to bring the pressure and only occasionally blitzed other positions. Williams will most likely use just about anybody (Shawn Springs has led the team in sacks before) on the field to blitz.

The only similarity I see is that they both use 11 players.

Who covers the gaps around the center if both DTs are going to play 3 technique? Unless I'm mistaken, that requires alot of your DTs - ALOT - playing between the Guard and tackle and being forced tocollapse inside on run plays.

If what you're saying is true, that sounds lke a terrible idea.

Maybe I just don't understand it.

There is no scheme under which all D-linemen play a 3-tech. That's just nonsensical.

It's just more Skins fans not knowing what they're talking about.
