Unless Tyron retires they will not take an OL in the first 3 rounds with all the holes on defense. Dak survived even without Tyron and Collins.
Let's say Dallas ends up with the fourth over-all. There will be seven selections in the draft at the tops of each round, unless they have traded away a pick. Maybe a 7th has been traded thus far. But they got something for Griffin, as well. And they lost a couple of players from last year, so that MIGHT add a couple of selections. I am not an expert.
Dallas has five players that are riding larger contracts. While it is not something fans think is wise, they can free up a great deal of money.
My thinking it they need:
1Edge
1DT
2LB
1CB
1S
1LT
1LG
Since most of that list will come from the draft, the actual cost would be inconsequential. The draft picks suck up around 2 million or so to sign.
This is predicated on Collins coming back. Utilizing Tyron in an as needed position, but still drafting his position. Allow him to play out his contract.
Top four pick would give this team a shot at a serious linebacker, and move Esch outside. With his speed and acumen, he becomes a force on the edge in a blitz possibility, along with sealing the edge, and providing pass coverage. This could also move Jaylon on the outside, which cuts the field in half for him. My opinion is he is maybe average at best. But instead of him having to cover in both directions, perhaps limiting his area of responsibility, especially if you add Rouseau, the Edge from Miami, or Parsons the LB from Penn State, or maybe Penei Sewell the OT from Oregon.
I would stay away from CB's in the first, and instead maybe try FA to get one. But Ar'Darius Washington from TCU would be a great safety in the second.
I do not believe Dallas will abandoned Dak, therefore taking a QB just will not happen. And after Lawrence, the quality drops off fairly significantly for someone to offer a King's Ransom to move up. Trading down isn't in the cards. Although it would be like Jerry to squander a great first round player to move away from the talent in this draft.
Your assessment of them taking any OL in the first three rounds might be set aside since Jerry watched his leader go down. The heir apparent also get injured, and bringing is that hot mess last night, who could do nothing because of an increasing pass rush which negated all this talent this board seems to put in a 7th round drafted QB.
The offensive and defensive lines are the priority. Nothing has become more apparent.
