If Payton has any sense his first two demands will be - fire Kellen More and get me a new QB

Then he will be sad when he realizes there are no good free agent QBs next year and whoever they draft will most likely be worse.

Is this supposed to be good news? Is he an upgrade over McCarthy? In fact, their careers mirror each other. Both were carried by franchise QBs. Both make tons of questionable decisions and their average at best coaching skills were masked by these QBs.

Payton is another re-tread coach who hasn't did anything in over a decade. So he would definitely be a typical Dallas hire.

Really hope JJ does not give MM a pass forr another lousy season because he lost his "star" QB for 6-8 games.

But like Morgan Freeman said in Shawshank Redemption, "hope is a dangerous thing".

idk sean payton but i do wonder why he would want to deal with jerry and stephen, be force to keep kellen moore, and be stuck with a below avg qb making $40,000,000 a year

i know $$$ but every owner in the nfl have $$$ to throw at some one like payton

Fair question. I guess my answer would be: it sure would not be bad news.

I don’t think Payton can turn this around. Horrible front office, bad offense, bad QB, overpayed and work RB.

Payton will take the job but it will mainly be for the paycheck and job security/perks. At his age and with his accomplishments, he has nothing left to prove. But with his relationship to Jerry, he knows this would be an easy gig for him to somewhat stay busy.

And it will cost draft picks...which we know Jerry would be gullible enough to give up for Payton. So we'd have an unmotivated coach without at least one high draft pick (and more likely multiple picks)...yes things could get worse.

I cannot foresee a situation where Sean Payton takes the Cowboys HC job. There is no amount of money worth leaving control to Stephen and Jerry.

It's just a recipe for continued failure and if you are going to fail at least let it be on your own terms.

While I don't think Payton is as great a coach as some seem to believe, I can't visualize him allowing that debacle last night. Either he would have told Moore to get back to running the ball, or he would have taken play calling duties away from him. We probably still lose, but at least we would have lost trying to do it right.
