LOL I was actually going to post something about slayer when I read the OP.

But if his daughter sings opera style than maybe something along the lines of Iron Maiden, OLD Queensryche or maybe even some King Diamond would work better lol.

First, thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I've tried to steer her towards Maiden, I wanted her to do Run to the Hills. No go. And although I agree with Operation Mindcrime being the best Queensryche, watching Tate do Queen of the Reich live in Japan on youtube is freaking awesome.

I think that's the best note ever hit. And long before autotune, when you had to have actual talent.

She has no interest in doing anything good like Maiden unfortunately. I raised her right, and she still wants to sing opera and show tunes, I don't get it.

She seems a little shy, .. a little 'unsure'.

You tell her that she is beautiful, and that she has a beautiful voice, .. and to stand up there with confidence and bust it out for everyone to hear. No holding back.

When I am coaching boys, I tell them before games to go out there and "make'em deal with you!"

You tell her that when she gets up to the microphone to "make'em deal with you!"

Like I said, she is a beautiful girl with a great voice, .. wonder if she would like to sing a Laura Brannigan song?

To be honest, I blame chorus. From the time she was little they were telling her to not sing so loud and to blend in, now it's like a conditioned response that she can't just let go. She started taking voice lessons this past year, after singing O Mio Babbino Caro (which was the most recent performance), so hopefully she'll let go more. She said her voice instructor has been trying to get her to belt things out more. Unfortunately he chooses what I think are the most horrific songs to belt. He's very much an opera and broadway type as well.

She could do regular songs but just sing them in opera style singing.

Something 80's main stream like Bonnie Tyler's total eclipse of the heart but with an opera flair to it.

Jim steinman produced that. Already has boys tabernachle choir tones

Did not know who produced it but it does have the type of setup where it could be moved to an opera style song.

I would imagine Meatloaf's songs could be done as well.

I've also told my daughter that she just needs to sing like Sinead O'Connor and she'll be the greatest female singer who ever lived.

I just think her voice is magical.

What about something from queen. Maybe a song from the Highlander soundtrack.

My own view, needs more innocence in her voice to be the greatest.
Judy Garland was not the geatest, but you can at least hear her innocence here...

My daughter is 15 and is going to sing in the talent show in a few months. She doesn't like pop at all - she thinks most of the pop singers are ******.
. ;)

Something clean, classic and powerful.

Let me think on it..... :)

Some really good recommendations already.

Killing me softly. GREAT!
Blue bayou. Great!

1.) Simply Red - Holding Back The Years
Your daughter sounds like she could sing this song with little to no music in the background with her voice

2.) Sade - By Your Side

3.) Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon (piano version only) not the radio version

Despite my best efforts my daughter has decided to do the following at the talent show

I'm thinking about grounding her for the talent show just to prevent this miscarriage of justice.

Just saw this thread and that's the first thing that popped into my mind was a Queen song. Who Wants To Live Forever or Bohemian Rhapsody. Very theatrical, emotional and requires a powerful voice.

Talent show was tonight. My daughter proved us wrong. It was better than I would have ever imagined, I'm uploading the video now.

After the show some random guy, maybe early fifties and looked kind of like a biker type, came over and told my daughter that her voice was amazing and that she made him cry. I hope the audio quality is ok.

Damn, neither my wife nor I managed to get a decent copy because they had the volume so loud that it seems to have caused some kind of distortion on the phones. We both recorded it and neither of us has a clean copy.

Will post it as is, and try to get another copy from the school.

She likes to sing opera, but she did that in the last talent show. So it would be nice to find something else for her to do. She also likes to sing from musicals.

Here she is singing an opera song last year:

And here is another bit of an opera song from some play that they did at school:

And here she is at 9 doing a Mary Poppins song:

Anyway, I'm looking for something different from the typical pop stuff, whether something from the past or something off beat, that I can suggest to her. Something that fits her voice.

And if Jerry is reading this, she's available to do the National Anthem at any Cowboys games. ;)

Clean it up a bit and do an off color version of The Pot by Tool

I got the audio from her friend's phone, I'm going to replace my audio with that. It sounds a lot more clear.

I removed the old video, but I can't edit my post so that one is going nowhere now. Here is the new link to the improved audio.
