Parcells said last year before TC that Henson had improved because of his work with Payton. Where did that land him once he had to compete?

that was during him throwing 5,000 passes, before he hurt his pinkey, his problems in preseason were him skipping balls, as well as the inexperience factor, but Romo already had a year in the sytem over him, coming straight from college, I think we should disregard last year like Parcells is going to

The quality of player you improve against does matter.

Parcells doesn't seem to think so, Jerry jones either

Henson has improved and from some of the clips I've seen posted here he's looked a little more comfortable in the pocket. But, I haven't had the luxury of seeing his bad plays, either.

the good plays outweigh the bad ones

Another excuse. I'm sure if Romo is the 2nd QB again this year, the excuse will be because Henson played in NFLE.

When did BP say he was going to dismiss last year? Please provide a link.

It seems like there is always an excuse as to why Henson isn't cutting the mustard. If he's a developing player, he'll be in his mid-30s before he's ready to start. I don't think he's as close as some think and it's obvious BP doesn't think (and has said) he isn't ready.

You know I do like Henson's long term potential. I am not betting money either way on what will become of him.

What bothers me the most is the Henson Haters Club want to cut Henson, but in the same breath praise Romo.

What exactly has Romo done. I mean when you think about it the Henson Haters think Henson is a bum, waist of time, oxygen thief, and etc.

What is Romo's major accomplishment...beating out Henson The Bum for the 2nd String QB position. Lets face it that is all he has accomplished. Not one single pass ever in an NFL game.

Romo never has beat out a quality QB for anything according to the Henson Haters anyway.

Romo has thrown a grand total of 93 passes in PRESEASON in 3 years. Yet Romo is the man and Henson should be cut.

You can not even accurately judge a QB who has played in a grand total of 3 real NFL games let alone a QB who has thrown for the equivalent of 3 games (barely) over the course of 3 Seasons worth of preaseason games.

I am just asking for consistency here. You dont like Henson fine by me. Now quit acting like Romo has accomplished a darn thing. Romo and Henson are the same stinking proven nothing yet boat. I just hope one of them turns out.

My money has always been on Henson because he is more gifted athletically. Who knows though, I certainly could be wrong.

Where did I say we should cut Henson? I don't recall saying that. But, you can tell Romo has a swagger and confidence in the pocket, even though it is preseason.

Tell me what it is you have against Romo being the No. 2 and why Henson should be?

Not answering for gbrittain, but I doubt from his post, he has "anything" against him, which seems like he made it abundantly clear.

It seems like you think he has something against him much like you think anyone who thinks Henson has more potential then Romo has something against him. Now I am not saying some don't think Romo wont amount to anything, but not all do.

Personally, Romo will be exposed when he gets to start full time, IMO. Why? Because of his limitations, arm strength, height and his penchant to make sometimes dumb mistakes ( like I pointed out for example last year in Pre-season against seattle, his throwing up for grabs when blitzed and not mentioned there should have been 2-3 ints that were dropped that hit the defenders right on their hands counting all the pre-season games last year).

Its like Timmy Chang was exposed last week. He was great the previous two weeks coming in relief for Henson, throwing few TDs etc, but once he was full time starter, he started to look clueless. I am not saying Timmy Chang and Tony Romo are comparable at all. But I am saying, Timmy's short comings were exposed when he started full time and D could game plan for him. Its the same thing the great Troy "I am better than Emmit" Hambrick went through.

Anyway, I have nothing against Romo, and would love him to be Starting QB for Cowboys for long term, if my doubts about him are proven wrong. Until then, I believe, Henson is the more talented one, as he proved in his first year, when he had the no. 2 job, from the year 2 man Tony Romo. Year 3 Romo won the job from Henson, but it didn't seem like whole lot distance between him and Henson, as we thought or media thought, from Jerry's comments etc. But thats besides the point, Romo won the job.

Bottom line, I hope both prove to be starting Quality QBs and better one sticks with QB and other gets cowboys something in return via draft picks.

and i saw confidence and swagger from henson in NFLE - in REAL games.

in this light, the question isn't 2 or 3, but why lick one mans jock and berate another when they've done more or less the same thing in the NFL. if you want "speculation" on your side then isn't it only "fair" to give the same speculation to another side?

For the record I have nothing against Romo or him being No 2 on the depth chart. No problem whatsoever.

I do have a problem with all the Henson bashing. You specifically may have not cut him, but that is the general consensus among the Henson bashers.

I'll tell you my only gripe with the "anti-Henson" crowd. The only way that they were going to give Drew Henson any credit at all was if he put up run and shoot type stats in NFLE. Simply put he needed to be a fantasy football numbers kind of QB because he was the best talent in NFLE.

Anyone who knows football knows this kind of thinking is laughable. Players still play within the game plan regardless of the level. Henson has done this and he did it very well. Will this be acknowledged? I doubt it very highly. Every article out of the NFLE this season discounted this very thing. The football talking heads offered praise, discounted right away.

The mentality with this group is, and has been, that these people do not know what they are talking about. After all, they are "mediots." I don't really have a problem with that overall because if I think something about a player, someone with more knowledge than me won't change my mind either. The difference however is that I still respect the contrary opinion.

Let me give you an example of playing within the system that most of us will relate to. I say most of us will relate to this because Aikman has his detractors for this very same reason, "unimpressive" stats when compared with other QBs of his era.

Troy Aikman never put up fantasy stats in the NFL over an entire season. There were occasional games, but Aikman played within the system. This means he won games when he had personnel around him performing as they were expected. Henson's system in Europe under Steve Logan is fairly similar to the Cowboys in the 90's in this regard. Aikman never had season stats like Young, Favre, or Marino. It is completely foolish to assume he was incapable of those kinds of stats. Yet some do feel this way. Makes me shrug.

It's the same thing with Henson now. Talk about potential, the reply is "Romo beat him out last year." Mention that Jerry Jones and Parcells have both expressed positives about his experience in NFLE and even their opinions are discounted. We've now actually digressed to the point where it is being debated whether or not he lied about asking to go to Europe or was assigned there as a last ditch. Maybe it's just me but Jerry Jones isn't calling him a liar.

It's the complete hypocrisy involved that amuses me. Many of Henson's biggest detractors are the same group of "gurus" that told me QBs need 2 years, then 3, then 4 to be fairly analyzed. Never mind the fact it is only their QB who deserves this analysis. I expected that. It was always straight out of the comic books thinking.

Football is a game of human chess. There are dynamics to the game beyond a box score, though those are intersting too. Most who like Henson are guys who prefer a pure pocket passer because when those guys play at a high level they can disect a defense. Some who prefer a scrambler do so because he can avoid the pass rush and has another dynamic to add for a defense to adjust to.

In Henson I truly hoped this bridge would be built between the 2 theories. He is a pure pocket passer and he is also extremely mobile and adept at avoiding the pass rush. So, why hasn't he bridged this gap? It's real simple, even though it's also a bit of a head scratcher. It's become too personal between the warring factions of the QB discussions.

In other words, he's disliked because those who immediately were overjoyed that we got him were the same guys who weren't enamored with a former starting QB. That joy meant the other side had to hate him, and frankly they've done a good job at it. I don't understand this at all, but I never understood why it was so personal to begin with.

Will we ever get beyond his stats and just look at his football ability? I no longer believe it will ever happen. I went out on a limb 3 years ago and said Drew Henson would be a top 5 NFL QB. I still believe that because he is doing exactly what I look for in a QB. That never meant he'd have run and shoot type stats and it never will. He'll be a great game manager when he gets his chance and I have no doubt he'll get it.

I'll do what I have always done. I'll jump his butt when he screws up and say he played well when he does. It will never be about his stats.

Excellent post Hos, excellent post.

I can 100% guarantee you that if Henson were to get accolades from Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells and even go on to start for the Cowboys and lead them to some considerable success that the same ones who are bashing him now will bash him then. There is nothing this guy could ever do to get any credit from that crowd.

If he put up phenomenal numbers and did not win a championship, he would be a "loser" QB.

If he won the Super Bowl or even two, it would be because of the talent surrounding him.

You know if Romo were to do the same I would bask in the glory and enjoy the ride thoroughly. The Henson haters would be in pure misery.

no excuses, if you watched any of the preseason games, you could tell Henson's arm was tired, and he hurt a pinky, but never did he use it as an excuse, and I also stated that Henson was still showing signs of rust from being away from the game for 3 years

First of all being a Henson 'detractor', The Answer has never claimed to 'hate' him. In fact deep down I hope he does turn out to be something because as a hardcore fan I want everybody on this team to succeed. But the reality is that not every player we draft or sign is going to be a superstar and I've come to grips with this. Henson's prima donna attitude and overbearing comments have put him in the critics crosshairs.

The Answer wasn't never concerned with how Henson performed in NFLE. Even if he would have shattered every passing record in that league it would have meant nothing. What The Answer was concerned is as to why Henson was even playing there to begin with. There were some people that claim Henson was a #1 overall pick type of talent and if that's the case he's busted worse than Tim Couch. 1st round talent don't play in the NFLE unless they have been monumental flops and shown nothing in their first 3 years.

If Henson was truly considered a #1 overall or 1st round type of talent than what does that say? Bledsoe, Aikman, Elway, Manning, Palmer etc have all led their teams to the playoffs in their early 20's. They didn't need 3 or 4 years to 'develop' to show what they can do on the gridiron. In fact both Bledsoe and Manning passed for well over 4000 yards in their 2nd year and made the playoffs. Henson is now 26 and is in danger of fading into NFL obscurity. Henson made a commitment to baseball coming out of college and that has haunted him ever since. If he was truly passionate about football he would have never went to the MLB.

JJ would have never signed Bledsoe (or Vinnie T) for that matter if he though Henson was THE ANSWER.

At some point you have to let go and move on....

are you insane? do you also know that Bledsoe, Aikman blah blah blah weren't away from the game for 3 years, after only starting 19 games since High School? dude, you'll try anything to spin this situation negatively
