ok, so as all spurs fans have heard its pretty obvious that our team gets pretty crappy ratings. now, whose fault is that? i think the NBA is to blame. My argument is that the league likes to advertise their stars instead of their teams. If you look at the NFL for instance, they don't advertise "peyton vs brady" they are always about the teams, so no matter who is good, the nfl always gets good ratings. Now i understand that the NBA will never get the kind of ratings the NFL gets, but it would help if instead of making everything....."KOBE VS SHAQ" "KOBE VS LEBRON" "THE HIGH POWERED OFFENSE OF THE SUNS VS THE HIGH POWERED OFFENSE OF THE WARRIORS" they would instead focus on the teams that are good and give them more exposure. I understand that to everyone its not as fun to watch a pistons/spurs game over a suns/warriors game, but if they advertised their best teams better than just their superstars, i think they would get better ratings.

Here is an example; Tonight there is a game between the two best teams by record in the league!! and who gets to watch it outside of boston and detroit? noone. but instead the league is giving us "THE HIGH POWERED OFFENSE OF THE SUNS VS THE HIGH POWERED OFFENSE OF THE NUGGETS" or "SHAQ VS IVERSON" or "NASH VS MELO". I think if they put more effort into advertising their good teams instead of just the superstars they would get better ratings, case in point, the NFL. Then, when they are stuck with the spurs and the pistons (possibly) in the finals they wont have to scramble to try to make it seem entising for people to watch in just one week.

So does anyone else agree with me? id rather be watching the pistons/celtics than the nuggets and suns!

well in my opinion i don't like to watch the spurs to much cause i think they're a little boring. but i do like to watch the spurs in the playoffs cause that's when you can really appreciate them and there style of play. i am also pissed i can't see the pistons beat nors team tonight. but yes i do agree on your stance of marketing except the nfl does do it too(peyton vs brady,(T.o. vs mcpuke). but the stars sell because they make exciting plays(dunks, nice passes that lead to dunk, steals that lead to dunks, and of course the alley-oop dunk:laugh2: )

thats true that the nfl does market their stars, but like you said, they at least do both. And with the NFL, you always have the league marketing the good team, just like last year they had a lot of lions stuff at the beginning of the year, but then switched to the giants, etc.

you mean jackie moon's momma didnt come up with the alley oop? lol

But seriously-

I see why you feel that way and it is in part to the Spurs boring nature of play. Take heart with the fact that if someone is bored watching your Spurs, they aren't intellectual enough to see basketball 101 live being performed where a team plays with cohesion well.

First, let me say that I don't think the Spurs are "boring" -- anyone who thinks that it's boring to watch Manu slashing and putting up a circus shot or Tony driving all the way to the hoop finishing among the giants needs to have their heads examined. And there's nothing wrong with playing good defense, crisp precision ball movement, or having a superstar who's so consistent he's nicknamed "groundhog day."

BUT, I'll admit that in some of the Finals series the Spurs have played in, they've had several games where there was a mind-numbing combination of great Spurs defense, and average Spurs offense. And the result of those spotlight games could very well be described as "boring." Some of that, however, is the result of an Eastern opponent that didn't deserve to be in the final 2 (Cavs, Nets, Knicks).

When the Spurs are off offensively, their games can get very boring, because their D still comes to play. And a NBA Finals game that's in the low 60s in the 4th quarter isn't much fun to watch.

They're my team and I'll watch them come hell or high water, but I'm objective enough to see where the label comes from.

thats true, but anyone can agree that game five of the 05 finals was a GREAT game! and it still got crappy ratings, IDK. I know that the spurs/pistons would never draw the attention that say, LA/cleveland or Phoenix/boston would, but i just think they would get better ratings if they did focus a little bit of their efforts on the teams rather than each individual player.

You may be right. Personality sells, though, and the NBA is always looking for the next Jordan.

So which is it then? You start off on a rampage that anyone who thinks they can be boring needs to have their heads examined then towards the end somewhat understanding it.

well i think also a part of the spurs problem is perception and competition from the east. The spurs/mavs serieses (is that right?) and the spurs/suns serieses have always had grea rating, so did the serieses with the lakers and even the nuggets. but when they get with these teams that should'nt be there (cavs and jazz last year) the ratings drop

The Spurs are not a boring team, per se... but they have played some boring games at times, especially on the big stage of the Finals against mediocre Eastern teams.

I thought the distinction was pretty clear.

Do you need more fiber in your diet? You always seem like you're in a bad mood. Or do you just like agitating?

Hmmm. My excreted solid waste is just fine. Thanks for asking though.

What can I say? When we're hot we're hot, when we're not, we're not.

Speaking of defense... Suns might want to try some tonight. They've given up 101 through 3 quarters tonight.
