Greetings Folks - I haven't started a thread in quite some time.

Even though it was disappointing for me to see Demarco Murray go to Philly, I am fully on board with what the front office and coaching staff is doing. The Cowboys have endured enough late signings only to go bad like Marion Barber III and others to cap-strap this team for seasons to come. Unfortunately, this had to happen. Stephen A. Smith's vicious attack on the Cowboys on Friday's show was way off base. You cannot pay everyone that kind of money in this salary cap era. Dallas did the right thing.

I have no issues with Darren McFadden. Obtaining him is no risk and high reward. KNowing that Dallas will not run him 392 times like they did Murray last season, he is going to need some help. This help needs to be better than Joseph Randle.

So here is what I would do if I were running the Cowboys:

1. The only other free agent I would sign would be Rolando McClain. He was solid in the middle when healthy.

2. Get a running back or two in the draft to replace Randle.
- First, I would see if I could trade down to the early 2nd round (between picks 33-37) and pick up an extra draft pick along the way.
- Second, I would take either Jeremy Langford, Jay Ajayi, or Tevin Coleman with Dallas' first pick. I think any of those three along with McFadden would replace the production of last year's Murray and Randle.

3. The rest of the draft can be used on defense with the exception of getting an extra offensive tackle to replace Jeremy Parnell.

I really do like those three running backs. Hopefully, Dallas will grab one. Please stay away from the the other running backs in free agency.

Trading down? No. Stay where you are at and get the best available guy. We already have compensatory picks. We don't need to trade down just to get an extra pick.

I would only trade down if Gordon and Gurley are gone and there is no obvious defensive player to be had. Then, if Dallas can get another late 2nd or early 3rd, then go for it.

I don't like trading down but this is a deep RB draft, so there is that.

Here mine:

(If Gurley and/or Gordon are available at 27)
First round: Take Gurley/Gordon without hesitating, whoever is available or higher on their draft board.
Second round: Best defensive player available, preferably a pass rusher.
3-7 rounds: take LBs/CBs/DL and maybe a OT.

(if Gurley and Gordon aren't available at 27)
First round: Best defensive player available.
Second round: Take Coleman/Ajayi/Abdullah, whoever is available or higher on their draft board.
3-7 rounds: take LBs/CBs/DL and maybe a OT.

I think they are referring to the ones they may be getting in 2016 depending on who else they sign. pretty sure they will get none this year.

You are correct. There is none this year. So trading down this year could come in handy.

Langford at 27 or even 33-37??? That is way, way early.

I like your plan better...except the Abdullah part.

Gurley Gurley, Gurley.

Nearly everyone on this forum is shouting for Gurley. I remember when everyone was shouting for McFadden in 2008. Hope you guys are right this time. If not it looks like we wont be getting Gurley until 2022.

Do you think Langford will drop to the 3rd round?
If you don't think he will be there at the 60th pick, then you either trade down a little or take him one round higher.

That is what the Cowboys did with Travis Frederick. They got criticized for taking him a little too high but who got the last laugh?

I would rather see Dallas draft a player they want a little high than to miss out on him.

I think Langford will be on the board for the 3rd rd pick and available sometime in the 4th.

I was not on board for drafting Gurley, if we lost Murray (which we did of course) because I'm tired of the drafting injured players stuff, unless a 7th round or UFDA. Need a RB that can help right away.
But now since we do have McFadden, he could be a stop gap player until Gurley is 100% ready. Even if that is 6 games if he's on PUP.

Looking at the long term here, as this new philosophy of not breaking the bank and planning for long term players and long term winning.

But also, a RB in the 2nd to 4th round is likely, since they too would have time to be ready to take over. After all Murray was a 3rd round pick. As they envisioned him to eventually be the starter, but injuries held that up.
I still prefer Defense if that impact type player is there.

Anyone who really believes there's a chance the Cowboys go RB with their first draft pick isn't paying attention. It will not happen. The Cowboys don't believe it's necessary; they don't think they need a superstar at RB. They drafted Murray in round 3; they could have resigned him if they thought it was critical. save yourself the agony.

It won't surprise me one bit for both Gordon and Gurley to still be on the board at 27, but that will be even more reason to draft defense. If the value isn't there or they see other options, I femininely see the Cowboys trying to trade down to the second round. I then see them packaging an extra pick to move up in round 2 with their own pick. They will then take two defensive players in the top half of round 2 and get their RB in round 3 again.

The chance that we use #27 on a RB has to be around 1%....

Most everyone agrees the Cowboys got lucky drafting Murray in the third rd. On all redraft scenarios he goes early first. So did the boys enjoy getting a first rd talent for RB, I think you can check that box, do you think they believe it was all Oline well this draft will tell the truth early pick of RB says it all. IMO ranking the backs we do not need a home run runner more the grinder and I rated them Gurley, Ajayi, and J Buck Allen.

Todd Gurley or Tevin Coleman are my 2 best fits for the Cowboys and what we now want to do running the ball preferrably I would rather have Gurley but if not then Tevin Coleman because he actually resembles Murray imo

You don't pass up on a top 5 special talent (see Dez Bryant) at pick 27 Especially with us letting Murray go

I'm hoping to get away from the Murray mold. I want that running back that can take it to the house, yet still has prototypical size.
