Here is why Felix will perpetually struggle with injuries

Alfred Williams does a sports talk show here in Denver and he said he thinks Felix Jones is the second best running back in the NFL. Kind of surprised me given his limited playing time. Pretty high praise, considering he is a total Bronco homer.

His quickness gets him huge runs. If he had elite top speed hed break them

i said this pretty much in another thread.

not having elite top speed does not mean he has "average" speed

one thing ive noticed is that felix holds onto the ball very well at the point of collision so well that he cant brace himself for contact.

what a ridiculous thread

felix jones does not take any different or more severe hits than any other NFL back nor does he land any differently

If I wasn't busy on a project I'd post some video that would make you look ridiculous. He does too land harder than most. Open your eyes.

Nexx, that's a good eye. I'd agree that this contributes to it. When you are running at Bolt speeds and then wrap up the ball with two hands (which Jones wisely does) then you are going to land more awkwardly.

Parcells sent Jason Witten back in a game with a broken Jaw.

Wonder what Tuna would have to say about Felix?

I know, "she" runs real good, but "she" needs better conditioning.

:)

What did he say about Julius Jones because it seemed he had similar problems staying healthy under Bill.

He wasn't even the fastest dude at the

I'll tell you why Felix keeps getting hurt 13 reps.

He don't got the strength to hold up in the NFL.

I'm just saying he's claiming Felix has jets no mortal has ever known but when you put that clock on his *** his speed is just pedestrian. Yeah there's a difference between game speed and 40 times. Some people are faster than what they time and others are slower.

Doubtful. Chris Johnson set records that day LoL.

At this point, I'll write it down to bad luck as all the injuries have been of totally different type and only the hamstring injury is a very common one.

I agree, it is football and people get injured be thankful the injury is not that bad. I see guys getting season ending and career ending injuries in the case of Felix we are talking 1 or 2 games before his return.

But they guy is never going to stay real healthy for real long.

Why? Think about the type of collisions he suffers with other foreign bodies and with the turf when he lands. The guy is just a rocket ship in flight and when he falls or hits something it is simply with greater force than other backs.

He also has less time to gather himself when he crashes into something or hits the deck. He's going to have more awkward landings than most.

We have to be realistic. He's going to be a supremely special back. Unique. One of a kind. But he's not ever going to play 14 or 16 games in a season.
Where'd you go to Med School?

I remember Brian Westbrook early in his career. He was very explosive, like Felix is and for 1 reason or another was usually injured in his first 3 seasons. That was the knock on Westbrook.

As we know, he became more durable as the years went on mostly because he learned how to deal with injury and bounce back from them, not because he doesn't get hurt. Every training camp he's knicked up to start the season.

That's a very good post and point, which brings me to...

***WARNING! THE FOLLOWING IS A RELEVANT, SOON-TO-BE-IGNORED FACT BY THE

Brian Westbrook ran a 4.57 40 at the NFL Combine.

HEY I KNOW!

It's because he is having an unfortunate string of injuries. He was a solid back/kick returner in college and he's recently bulked up by prob 20lbs of muscle since last season while injured w/ the toe. The extra mass and faster game speed + much bigger dudes hitting and falling on him = injured. :)

The only question is;
Is he injury prone at this elite level or has he just been unfortunate? Kinda hard to say from our vantage point (on a couch) lol.

Dwight Freeny is a guy Felix reminds me of. Crazy agility but seems to come at a price.

LOL.

I don't take your post serious. But i admit it's funny, you made me laugh.

Quick points:
1. strength has little to do with durability
2. he isn't elite from a speed standpoint.
3. he isn't small at all either

He needs more time in the weight room for his legs, strenghening those muscles, and for a little bit of this run of bad luck to get away from him. I'm not sure that he's ever going to be the work horse type back, in fact I'm pretty confident in saying he'll never be, but that's ok cause we don't need him to do that here. I just want him to be able to stay healthy for the season and be able to give us 10-15 touches a game on offense where we can utilize that speed and explosive nature.

Also if he'd learn to step out of bounds a yard or two quicker here and there and avoid some of those needless collisions that would also help him out.

I agree with this as well. His injuries are not the kind of injuries that are chronic or related to each other. The PCL injury is a collision injury which has nothing to do with a toe injury. He was not a guy that missed a lot of time in college due to injuries and despite what some say, the SEC is almost as fast and hard hitting as the NFL, well, some of the time. It's not like Felix has never taken a hit before. He will be fine eventually, a lot of guys get dinged up a lot their first couple of seasons before they figure out whatever it is that helps them stay healthy.

Westbrook is hurt now and got hurt last seaon also i think he's been healthy for a full season once.
