Some or maybe even most observers would say this is an example of instinct but I say it is intelligence. Experience taught the cat that the treadmill will slowly move him back and off the end. He is enjoying the heck out of the experience and knows that repeating it means jumping to the center of the mat instead of attempting to walk back to that same spot from the end.
