My first cat when I was a kid would catch (or I should say collect) things like that and always put them right in front of the door to the bathroom so she could surprise one of us in the morning. Most of the time it was random items from the house (ex: socks) but every so often it would be something that was now dead which gave you a horrible moment when you stepped on something soft while you tried to discern what it was with your foot.
