You guys got lucky that David Robinson got hurt one year and it allowed you to get Tim Duncan.
And you won one of those championships during a shortened season.

we won the lottery twice. may have been luck, but we won it. btw, I wouldnt call having David get hurt a lucky thing. Sean was also hurt that year. Actually my favorite part of that year was having Dominique Wilkins play for us. He is one of my all-time favorites. He looked damn good in Silver and Black.
last time i checked, every team in the league played during the shortened season.....we won. we also won 3 more times in complete seasons.
the facts are this. Aside from the Lakers, the Spurs are the only other team to make the playoffs at least 30 times since the mid 70s. The Spurs have only missed the postseason 4 times, and have only had 2 losing seasons. If not for the debacle of 1978, when they choked away a 3-1 series lead to Washington, the Spurs could be either the only team, or one of very few teams to have won a Championship while a part of either conference. They were in the East when they first entered the NBA.
The have 4 Championships in 4 appearances. Only the Celtics, Lakers, and Bulls have more Championships (all large market teams). They have the 2nd best all-time winning % in NBA history....Lakers being 1st, Celtics being 3rd. We are also, the only ABA team to win an NBA Championship....Nets 0-2, Pacers 0-1, Nuggets 0-0.
So considering that in the mid 70s, we were just a podunk city in south central Texas....with no real media market to speak off....we have done pretty well for ourselves. We are still a small media market. We are still unattractive to potential free agents. We still have to live by a tight budget.....we definitely do not have the resources the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, and Knicks have.....yet look at us.....one of the top 3-4 franchises in the history of the league.....
Lucky, good, blessed....all 3.....and damn proud of it.
