Here's an interesting comparison for Romo (Craig Morton)

Meredith's record in "big games" was significantly better

With all due respect to Don, I will never understand hy he gets a pass win it comes to having never won when it counted the most, while Danny (and Craig to a lesser extent) gets hammered:starspin

I think Meredith gets some slack because of the games he played in. He faced the Packers twice and had a good game in the first one against one of the best pass defense teams the league has ever known. In the 2nd one (The Ice Bowl) the conditions were horrible for passing so he gets a pass on that one. Plus we would have won that game if not for that last crazy gamble by Starr. If he would have failed on that sneak they would have had no time to kick a tying FG and they would have lost.

In the first playoff game against the Browns, we crushed them 52-14 and Don had the highest passer rating possible, 158.3.

It is really his final game that kills him. In that 1968 playoff game vs the Browns, he was completely wretched going 3 of 9 with 3 INTs and 0 TDs. he left the game with a 9.7 QB rating and retired shortly after they got home. Landry blamed him for the loss and Don never got over it. He was only 31 years old and could have played at least another 4-5 years at a high level, just in time for Staubach to step in.

So even though he was 1-3 in playoff games, he was really only bad in one of them. Morton, on the other hand, was terrible in all 6 playoff games he played in as a Cowboy. Even in the games we won he was pretty bad.

Danny White gets a raw deal IMO as he had his share of big wins and played well in a number of playoff games but because he didn't win it all he is a bum. I don't buy that and always liked him.

Even though Meredith never won the big one, you had to love the guy for his toughness. That game against the Browns were they got slaughtered (1968?) he was supposedly hurt so bad from a prior injury he should have been hospitalized.

Danny White his weak arm aside, I'm sorry but Landry thought so little of him that Gary Hogeboom beat him out for starter still in his prime. Comeon if he didnt play for Americas team and get all the publlicity and face time, he would have been a journeyman, game manager type any where else. Certainly run out of town in a few cities.

I thought Danny White was a very good QB and if he beats the 49ers I think his legacy is a lot different. If Pearson does not get caught by the collar of his jersey, no one remembers the catch and White is the hero. White to me is a very underrated QB and also was a much better athlete than people give him credit for.

Craig Morton threw one more pass than Tony Romo as a Cowboy in their careers so I thought it would be interesting to compare them since they have virtually the same number of attempts:

Morton: Games as starter: 32-14-1 = 69.15%, 1308 Att, 685 Comp, 52.4%, 10279 Yards, 7.9 Avg, 80 TDs, 6.11%, 73 INTs, 5.58%, 82 Sacks, 6.27%, 75.6 QB Rating.

Romo: Games as Starter: 27-12-0 = 69.23%, 1307 Att, 831 Comp, 63.6%, 10562 Yards, 8.1 Avg, 81 TDs, 6.20%, 46 INTs, 3.52%, 65 Sacks, 4.97%, 94.7 QB Rating.

It is interesting how similar their production was on the same number of pass attempts. Pretty close in Yards per attempt, TDs are nearly identical, and their winning percentage is almost the same. Romo plays in a more passer-friendly league so his completion%, INT%, and Passer Rating are significantly better as is his sack%, but otherwise they are pretty close.

Just thought it was interesting.

Just for giggles, here are their rushing stats:

Morton: 74 Att, 246 Yards, 3.32 Avg, 6 TDs
T Romo: 95 Att, 270 Yards, 2.84 Avg, 2 TDs

Romo needs to run better.
Who's Craig Morton? I'd hate to be named after someone who people can hardly remember.

He was one of the guys that made Monday Night Football what it was. That's what people remember. That's why he gets a pass.
