Disagree on that part.
Dak already got paid the huge signing bonus. If traded, there's no actually salary penalties towards Dallas. They eat dead cap.
The team that trades for him is stuck with the guaranteed salary, but not the signing bonus cap hits.
If Dallas wanted him gone, Dak waived the NTC, they could trade him after June 1st. There will be dead caps on the 2025 cap and 2026.
However, ownership isn't paying any more than what has been paid.
His cap hit for 2025 as of now is 89.89mil. If June first traded it drops to 42.16mil, or a net savings of 47.75mil for 2025 which could be rolled int 2026.
His cap in 2026 if stays on is 67.69mil. If traded in June of 2025 his dead cap hit for 2026 is 61.1mil, or still saving ~6mil even with all that dead cap.
It's feasible this offseason from a financial point of view if they have a buyer after June 1st and Dak waives.
The team acquiring him would need 47.75mil of cap space to obtain him. They could free up more cap space by renegotiating his deal, and dropping his salary into a signing bonus. If wanted so.
The team would have the roll the dice like Denver hoping a rookie QB could start and be a bus driver to survive the 2025 and 2026 dead caps to a QB that's no longer here.
Or pay Lance a cheap deal
