Maybe Herschel Walker doesn’t want to be known as the subject of the worst trade in NFL history. Alternatively, Walker could be angling to become known as the king of the hollow offseason boast.

He’s done it again this year. Not once, but twice. Making the media rounds on Thursday, he saidhe’ll participate in another MMA fight, at age 54. On Friday, Walker continued his media tour by claiming he could still play in the NFL, at age 54.

“I don’t think I can, I know I can,” Walker said, via TheScore.com. “In a third-down situation, I could help a team out today. I could do a few things and do it well.”

I wasn't thrilled with the cynical angle to the story, didn't think it was necessary. And I think Herschel actually believes he can play and compete in MMA.....no harm in that.

Yeah, I agree. It really isn't this story that I have an issue with... it is articles from the past where they attack everything with snark and sarcasm.

PFT is the epitome of Internet mob behavior.

Big difference from his college days. Makes you wonder if he's using steroids don't see many over 50 looking that bulked up.

During Walkers playing days he claimed he would only eat a hamburger and fries and other junk foods. He said he didn't even lift weights he would do something like 500 pushups and 500 sit-ups everyday. He was on Oprah just after he left the Cowboys for Minn, they also had a female bodybuilder on the show Rachel McLish. Walker took his shirt off and looked about as bulked as he did in the OP and claimed all he ate was junk food and didn't touch weights. Rachel McLish wasn't buying it and it led to a pretty heated exchange between them. Walker told her to ask his teammates they see him everyday.

I don't know why it was so hard for her to believe. He may not lift weights but the guy is a professional football player. Probably burns more calories in 1 quarter than the average person burns all day.

She took offense because she was a bodybuilder who put a lot of work into dieting and lifting and when you look at the way Walker is built it is hard to image being that bulked up and lean without lifting weights and having a diet that consists solely of junk food. Most NFL players lift weights and you would think an RB would lift. Walker has to be lifting now because he's bigger in that picture than he was during his playing days.

He has to be at least in the 240 range in that picture if that's a legit pic and not a photoshop. I googled his recent pics and he does look big in all of them. I'm sure he has great genetics and got into proper diet and lifting to bulk up as much as he has without steroids but who knows.

He did more than 500 of each a day BTW. In my early 20s I did 6-10 sets of 60 pushups and situps twice a day. It doesn't take that long actually once you get good at it. And you do have a chiseled look. I never got out of the 220s like that though and had to pump iron to get in the 235 range. And I hate whatever I wanted including a lot of junk food. Not putting down a special diet but I don't think everyone needs it. You body is very good at making the proteins, fats and carbs it needs as long as you fuel it reasonably. It'll process pretty much whatever you give it assuming no diseases.

I know I'm biased but this quote has to be one of all time favorite......

Somebody asked Herschel once if he got tired carrying the ball 30 times a game. His answer: “The ball ain’t heavy.”

The late John McKay said that line to a reporter in 1979, after the late Ricky Bell carried the ball for Tampa Bay 42 times in a game. Where does the time go?

I think Mike Florio and the rest of the PFT bloggers don't like Herschel Walker for personal reasons.

I never had any problem with PFT. They have a really good rumor mill. I check that site ever day and have been for years. I found lots of good information there. Also some good comments after the articles by readers.

At this site too we have people who attack everything with snark and sarcasm. I could easily give you two names of the kings of snark and sarcasm here.

I don't get the PFT hate. And internet mob behavior? Well, good luck trying to find a site that allows opinions and comments without the 'internet mob behavior.' Whatever 'internet mob behavior' is.

You're right, of course. That behavior is anywhere that people post. It just seems like the guys writing the articles have been the worst of all with their remarks and it has been that way a long time. I just think the guys putting out the articles shouldn't approach things that way.

They do put a lot of good info all in one spot (even if they just get it from other news outlets and combine it in one website).

I can totally understand why the site doesn't bother you... but it just kind of gets on my nerves is all. Just different strokes.

To be fair though, I've put out my fair share of snark here so perhaps I'm being hypocritical.

Anyway, here's to reading wherever and whatever you want.

If any 54 year-old man could play in the NFL, Herschel Walker is that man. I loved him. He was one of my all-time favorite Cowboys. I was super bummed when he was traded away. At the time I did not understand what a great deal that trade was for the team. I can't think of any Cowboys player classier than Walker. Even Staubach equals, but doesn't surpass, Walker's class. I wanted Walker to get a Super Bowl ring so bad! I would have been okay even with him getting one as a Viking. When he returned to the team in about '96 for his second stint, I hoped the team still had enough in the tank for one more Super Bowl victory so that Walker could get a ring. Wasn't meant to be. :(

Could Walker actually play in the NFL now? I have my doubts, but I would LOVE to see him pull it off just because I love and respect him so much. Who knows what artificial limits we've put on ourselves via our beliefs? We used to think it was impossible for a human to run a mile in 4 minutes. Once Roger Bannister finally did it, numerous other runners managed it. The difference was a change in belief. Do I know for a fact that Herschel could play at 54? No, I don't know it for a fact, but maybe, just maybe, it's possible.
