Tucker was facing arguably the best pass rusher in the NFC. Rob didn't "shut down" anyone. He had a good game (at least better than his previous game) but there was no shutting down happening.

Whatever no sacks allowed is a shutdown in my book.

DBoys, you have a serious problem when someone criticizes the play of someone you really like. If you think the way Petitti is playing RIGHT NOW is good enough then you're in denial. Good enough would mean we don't have to constantly give him help. I'm not saying he can't be good enough eventually, but if he doesn't get there then we need to get something better. PERIOD.

Just cuz he's improving doesn't mean he'll improve enough. Now get off Petitti's jock and try and look at things w/o your cowboys goggles on. You and burmafrd show a little too much man-love for players you really like (JuJo in burm's case). At least TRY and act like a man.

Guys are kissing up to Petitti because his dad posts here.
[\QUOTE]

That's just wrong - Petitti got bashed after the Seattle game.

Folks may try to be a little more polite and thoughtful in their evaluations of Petitti -- out of respect for his dad who had shown extraordinary class and generosity to us. You are confusing thoughtful evaluation with 'kissing up' -- perhaps because the usual level of player evaluation here is so black and white - someone either sucks or they are the best. What you are seeing is fans actually thinking for a second about a player's performance when they talk about Petitti.
There's a difference between showing respect and angling for an autographed picture. It really seems like some posters here are hoping to get there names mentioned at the next Petitti family barbecue.

Petitti has certainly been a pleasant surprise, but for someone to mention that he dominated Strahan is just ridiculous. Fortunately, for the more objective posters around here, Pittdawg appears to be a pretty straight up dude and seems like he'd be the first guy to lay objective criticism on his son, or any other player when it is warranted. We need better RT play next year. I think it's reasonable to be optimistic that Petitti will be that guy (given the potential he has flashed this year and what we've seen with former project players like Gogan, Tuinei, Newton, etc.) However, the fact remains that it's an area that needs to be upgraded, either by the player playing there (hopefully), or by someone else.

How many atheletic guys play RT in the NFL?

RT typically are adequate pass protectors and very effective run blockers.

I honestly don't know how athletic he is, but scouting reports say he has good feet. My guess is he's going to increase his strength substantially in the off season.

He's going to also see DE's for the 2nd and 3rd time, he's going to think less and react more. I'm not worried about RT of the future. I "think" we have him. I'm worried about getting are two young tackles through this yr knowing we can't help both.

In 2006 I don't see us needing to help Pettiti anymore than other teams do.

Let's look at him for what he is: a 6th round pick playing much better than his draft status would indicate and showing good potential. Dallas has seen much worse play at the RT position, see Tucker in previous years for example. No, he is not playing like an Erik Williams, but my gosh guys, he gives us hope at the position that we have not had in a long time. He had a bad game against Seattle and a better game against Arizona. We have to expect inconsistent games from him. Check back in two or three years. I think we are set at RT for a long time. He may never make the Pro Bowl like a Greg Ellis type of player, but be solid. Or, he may develop into an all-pro. Who knows? But I like what I see so far.

I for one obviously was bashing Rob last week. He has improved vs. Arizona but that is because Rivera had inside help on obvious passing plays (shotgun, 4 wide) but this week he was opening holes in the running game much better than last week. He seems to be getting better with technique and footwork. IMO if he gets strong enough and improves his footwork enough BP wont be looking for a replacement this offseason.
Im excited to see how much better he can play against Kearse next weekend.

OT:Rack, that is one nasty avatar.

Petitti's OK for a rookie but he obviously has a long way to go and I think he will eventually get there. Right now I think he's the best starting 6th rounder rookie OT in the league and I'm glad to have him. Next year he will be stronger and better. He needs to work on his arm strength - that tatoo needs some muscle under it.

I'll be happy to let him build fence for us all during the off-season; that ought to put some biceps and triceps on his scrawny little arms as well as firm up his pecs - though I don't think I can afford to feed him, he's liable to reduce our herd of Herefords substantially and I'll have to plant one whole garden in nothing but potatoes.

IT will be interesting to see what young players step up after this bye week...They will have time to exhale and grow into better players...

It would be great if Rob continues his growth...

No you have a problem putting guys down you dislike Nors for example. I said he played a great game against AZ and dominated Okeafor who said anything about overall picture. This is a week to week game lsat time I checked.

I agree. He has played well at times but I wouldn't use the word dominated at all for him.

Dboys may have overstated it, but he's essentially right: Pettiti had a good game against AZ. That's what this thread was about.

Fair enough then what do you guys consider dominating for an OL?

the kid is a rookie 6th-round selection. Dallas needed help at RT and Petitti has been a starter since opening day. make a list of this years 6th-rounders who've made a bigger contribution to their teams - it'll be a dang short one. to say he's dominated in any game is a bit of a reach - but Petitti has given reason to be very encouraged about him.

What more could he of done in the AZ game? No flags, no sacks, 2 touchdowns run on his side, please tell me what more he could of done to be dominating?

don't get me wrong - i'm more than pleased with rookie Petitti. but he still needs much help from the TEs and backs. this is no shock. and of course he'll require less as time goes by. i don't buy him as "dominating" at any time - but am relieved to find he is serviceable. that's more than we could say of the RT position last season.

You're right, but they're trying to see something that isn't there.

I'm not missing anything on Petitti. However, what I do have is the perspective to understand that a) one awful game doesn't mean someone sucks, b) one good game doesn't mean someone is all of a sudden the long-term answer at the position, and most importantly c) rookies have a very hard time playing OT.

Late round rookies OTs rarely start. We are putting a guy in who is a little over his head right now. He is learning in front of all of us. That's going to involve mistakes.

What were all of you expecting? That Petitti come out and play like Erik Williams in his prime? If you had any sense, his performances over the season so far should please you at least a little.

Look at tapes of Erik Williams before his injury. This guy handled Reggie White one on one.
