http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145722 I added some of my own thoughts from a post.
Ken Hamlin
Hamlin missed too many tackles and had one pick, four fewer than in '07.
Because he did not have a contract, he did not take part in the off-season conditioning program. Was that a factor? These players want to be treated like professionals but don’t want to work hard, is that right attitude?
Marion Barber
Like Hamlin, he wasn't around for the off-season program either. Even though Barber is a tireless worker, coaches, players and general managers say there is nothing like working with your teammates because it pushes you more. When your in off seasoning conditioning like mentioned above, you push your other teammates too.
In his first year as a full-time back, Barber averaged 3.9 yards per carry after averaging 4.5 yards in his first three years. He can be a devastating back, but his style doesn't lend itself to a 16-game season. With Felix Jones and Tashard Choice, the Cowboys can have one of the best backfields in the game, and Barber can go back to a role he perfected: the closer.
Andre Gurode
Yes, he's in Hawaii this week playing in another Pro Bowl, but he was not the same player this season as he was the previous two. Too many times he was on the ground. Too many times he couldn't get to the next level. Too many times his snaps were early. In 2007, the shotgun snaps were off target. In '08, he jumped the count too many times. Where is the coaching that corrects these mistakes from having this happen during games? Is it because extra days were given off to players and they didn’t have that time to work on them?
Anthony Spencer
He needs to find the motivation to be a consistent pass-rush threat and the coaches need to keep him on the field to rush the passer. Remember also that Spencer missed valuable treatment time with a lame excuse, this kept spencer out longer than anticipated. And he must deal with his off-field arrest that will likely cost him a game check for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Finally about Spencer, remember what spencer said after he was arrested, who cares? Now is that the right attitude?
Roy Williams
If Williams doesn't believe the Cowboys practice hard enough, then he must practice hard himself, not just go through the motions himself. (When the head coach allows the players because their professionals not to hit in practice the first 25 days & gives them extra days off during the season, even though they lost a game, is that really a head coach?) If Owens isn't around, then Williams must prove he's a No. 1 receiver. Like Jimmy Johnson said, if your going to talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk. Back up with what you say with more than just words.
Roy Williams the safety, last year he refused to work out with his teammates. Then roy Williams the safety takes a vacation during the OTAs. Was there some connection? This guy roy Williams the safety should have been a leader but he works out by himself and not with his teammates and misses valuable practice time in OTAs, is that a leader?
Finanlly, we all know about the special teams, which cost us McBrair and Romo got hurt in that same game due to poor playing. Isnt the head coach suppose to work on special teams and realize that you can lose a game in the 3 main errors, offense, defense and special teams? When players gripe and groan about not having the right attitude to play special teams, because some players dont want to play special teams, then whose fault is this?
