Try an ota antenna, in your market you will probably pull a ton of channels. I get all the locals in hd here, but in case they go out I have a terk tv5 antenna. I leave in my attic except when I am recording the cowboys in hd on my computer. It was well worth the 40 bucks I spent on it!!

Here in Dallas-fort worth directv does not offer pbs or the wb in hd, so you need the antenna for it. I actually watch pbs so I use it for that...! Plus I have not done this myself but I believe if you run it through the dtv hd dvr you can record the stations the antenna picks up and you will not need to switch inputs.

I think WG has the new HR-21 which does not have the antenna input on it, so she wouldn't be able to record them even with an antenna. Watch yes (if the TV has it's own tuner), but not record.

The Antenna is unbelievable. I get all the Providence and Boston stations free with ol rabbit ears.

Nice backup to DTV Channels.

I had to pay an extra $25 for another antenna. I can record anything. The issue I have is I no longer get the HD channels for CW or My20 and some other local channels.

On my other HD receiver, I got the local HD channels AND some auxilliary channels for my local channels. For instance, I used to get an auxilliary ABC local news and weather channel. I no longer get those with this receiver. Now I just get the HD channel and the standard 480i channel. Kinda sucks.
