Hill: Irving is not reporting to start of training camp

It's a positive sign that he's trying. I don't recall McClain ever bothering to do that.

Seems like it *might be* positive. We might wonder why he didn’t do it before...we might wonder a lot of other things. All I’m saying is that this *could* be a positive thing.

It's definitely logical to question the timing. I certainly am. It's one thing to have these issues to address, but his pattern makes it look like he's using them as an excuse. Some sort of a "get out of jail free card."

If he's in rehab treatment, doesn't that indicate that his substance abuse problems are ongoing, which likely means we'll see a longer suspension handed down for another violation sometime soon?

Or is this a condition of his current violation? I would have thought if that was the case that he would have been put into a program in time to be out by the start of training camp. This whole mess just doesn't give me much confidence that he can ever be counted on, and I'm a fan of his talent.

My thoughts as well. Not only that, is he just now going to rehab? After all this time? What's he been doing until now?
I guess we just don't know, may never find out.
But I agree with an earlier post that he's taking a spot that could be filled by somebody who might be able to contribute to the team.

David Irving is out the entire TC and the first four games. Hmmm... I need to know what the heck is going on before I exercise my inclination to just go ahead and cut bait with this guy right now. Need answers.

Usually there's 2 or 3 preseason games after training camp ends before the season starts.

Plenty of training/practice that could be done in that time if he shows up.
I have an idea! How about we just let everyone on the team act like Gregory and Irving and show up at about game 9 and let's see how that works out for us.

These guys are not really worth that much trouble. Even Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady level talent isn't worth all of this.

Take a risk on injury with great character? Yeah. That could work.

Bad character stuff always ends up being a deal killer.

The fan in me says :banghead:

The human in me wants him to find peace

I agree, but I'd like for the Cowboys to be able to find some peace concerning this issue as well. They don't deserve all the distraction and hassle. They have a business to run, a team to build, and a season soon to start, and Irving seems to just keep throwing more coals on the fire.

opens things up for some of these other guys.
hope Jihad Ward seizes the opportunity.
also wonder if Taco will slide inside now...not full-time but on a few snaps.

hope Irving gets clean...he is dominant....and damn frustrating.

This is going to open up a roster spot for someone.

LOL....so what did any one really expect? This is not unlike RG, who has his own little followers groupie chorus. Just keep defending these potheads, just expect the "I told you so's" to happen. I will add, it sucks these idiots can't get their act's together and be that force on the team we all have come to expect from them. DI is just another DA!
You reminded me about Rolando not wanting to show up because he knew a test was waiting for him.

Everybody has problems at some time or another, but not going to work creates additional problems.
Irving is not a victim of circumstances, he's CREATING his own circumstances!

Well, yes and no. But we agree (I think) generally he has to show up and do his job at some point in time; the sooner the better. He needs a 'nanny'.

agreed.
Richard Ash could be a wild-card among the DTs....I wonder if they'll slide Crawford inside also...Taco and Crawford maybe.
gonna be a fun camp to see this unfold.

Datone Jones is another guy I wonder about. He's a former first round pick that's bounced around but he's hit talent and he's looking to find a home. I liked what I saw from his last year and optimistically, he could be an Irving replacement for the future. Not as flashy mind you, but not as unstable either.
agree 100%...I like Datone Jones alot too...so do they I think.
we'll see.

absolutely not. Kawhi isn't close to similar to disposition as Irving. The issue you have is that when Pop said jump, Kawhi didn't say how high and was looking out for his own physical well being and future by getting a second opinion. Good luck with that basket case DeRozan Pop. Why would you risk Max money to comeback and get run by Golden State on a very mediocre team? No. Team doctors routinely lie to get back before they are healthy.
Kawhi wanted out of San Antonio, and he milked his knee injury for all he could until he was finally traded. He's a traitor.

He dropped weight, so any inside work would have to be on passing downs.

wonder if that means he's staying at DE?
maybe not.
I like that guy personally...handles his business.

My guess is he will work at DE. I've been saying he would be a DT but he looks like he has lost too much weight except for 3rd down passing situations

I thought he'd move inside too but after seeing that pic....not so sure any more.
Im curious about Taco....he made plays at Michigan when they slid him inside.Hope they try that more with him this season.
