Suspended Cowboys DL David Irving did not report for the start of training camp Tuesday and is without a timetable for return.

He's away to take care of "ongoing personal issues" and missed much of the offseason with the same matters. Irving won sole custody of his daughter this year and has been unable to find proper child care for her. Per beat writer Clarence Hill, there's a chance Irving isn't at training camp at all this summer. He's suspended the first four weeks for a substance-abuse violation.

If I recall correctly 2/3 of the fans here wanted us to either extend Irving or at least protect him with first round tender. The team did the smart thing—threw down second round tender.

We all know the guy is a head case. He knows he’s a head case and has admitted as much. He also is sack-a-game player who can disrupt the hell out of opposing offenses.

You try to find human duct tape capable of getting him through... ride this circus DT through this season...and move on.

It’s not like we ever wasted a pick or real money on the guy. If the other shoe drops and I hear something horrendous this week...or if he’s really going to miss all of camp...perhaps my view changes and I’ll agree on cutting him now.

If we're not sold on Irving, why are we playing Collins at 1-tech instead of seeing if he could be our future 3-tech? Now we're gonna be stuck needing two new starting DTs next season.

Most likely what we'll do is move Collins back to 3-tech next year and he'll struggle because he wasted the past two years being a mediocre 1-tech. Then we'll find another Nick Hayden to stopgap at 1-tech.
 
Some people seem to never run out of "circumstances". At some point, you have to stop blaming the circumstances and start blaming the person.
Some people just create their own "circumstances". Over and over.

Everybody has problems at some time or another, but not going to work creates additional problems.
Irving is not a victim of circumstances, he's CREATING his own circumstances!

Yes, how dare he put family first.

Dude is a knucklehead when it comes to getting suspended for drug violations, but they don’t give sole custody to father’s that often, which suggests his life is a mess if they thought the mother was that unfit.

I wasnt suggesting he not put family first but at the same time, he could responsibly set up his daughter with family or perhaps hire a nanny. There's no excuse for not showing up to work when you've had time to hash out logistics.
