Hill: Irving is not reporting to start of training camp

He’s not a marginal contributor.

Yet if Garrett cut him tomorrow, you would be clamouring about what a stellar move it was no doubt and posting it on your signature. LOL

Lets just get things into perspective here.............anything Garrett does is gospel to you. Seeing as though he is your big hero.

He’s been a good acquisition for what it cost us by any definition. If we let him walk after the season, it’s still a personnel win.

People are just angry because they want the game breaking player for free without any negatives. He’s a talented and productive head-case. Those guys get opportunities.

Yeah we gave nothing for him. So from that aspect it's a very good payoff.

On the other hand you simply can't count on him and that's problematic from a roster building standpoint. It's hard to keep him and not be able to count on him. It's hard to envision him as your 53rd man you just don't care about. But that's what you would have to do, mentally.

On the other hand, do you pass over a guy who could really help you and be dependable at his same position because of him? Maybe because maybe that guy sits behind Irving and you get nothing out of him.

It's more problematic than most people believe it is, because you can't overlook he is taking up a roster spot and you have to take into account he is on your team and that's one less player that can be stocked at his position.

Don’t. Call it like it is, he’s a headache and not worth the hassle.

The talented head cases almost never end up being worth it in the long run. Short run maybe. Long run not so much.

Dez got paid and literally mailed it in. He sucked on the Cowboys teat for 3 full years.

The entire NFL appears to have said no thanks to Dez. Of course if you believe Dez he has tons of offers and just doesn't want to go through training camp. While I guess that is possible, why would anyone wanting to get paid not go through training camp and build some chemistry?

That's why I reallly don't believe Dez. If there are offers and he hasn't picked on by now either they are peanuts (likely) or he is even more of an idiot than I ever thought he was.

A lot depends on what’s actually going on.

Marinelli and Lee didn’t seem all that supportive over OTAs. I imagine it’s family drama but stuff he ought to not be letting affect his career, and the team excused the absence because he’s not showing up anyway and they’re minimizing the distraction it creates.

It’s tough, though, because he’s a really good player and a really good value. You don’t just cut guys like that, especially when they play positions of need. You try to backfill them and see what happens.

He must have some serious emotional-psychological issues going onm. Someone get him some damn help.

Here's an odd prediction: Assuming Irving doesn't get slapped with another suspension later this year, Dallas resigns him for an incentive-laced, minimum contract for next year.

Not at all what I would do, but it is exactly what the Cowboys would do.

Guy was so close to making some money. Was going to make 2.9 mil this year. By far his biggest paycheck. If he stayed straight then he would have gotten a contract somewhere. But I think this was his last straw. If he is lucky JJ will offer him 3 million next year with stipulations in his contract. At least I would. No one else will pay him so he will be dirt cheap. Like I have said before a 12-15 million a year talent that can be had for about 3-5. I wonder if his family has money so he don’t have to worry about it or a career.

There is no timetable for him to report as he has been excused to address ongoing personal issues, per sources.

There must be a reason that they excused him.

I agree that he is an idiot to some extent but if he was not cooperating with the team, they wouldn't excuse him from reporting on time.
Funny how fans wanted Gregory cut. Now thinking he should be the starter
Now they want to cut a player with excused absence
The guy is an idiot but if you can help him thru his issues you get a super talented player
If he is working with the team to me that’s a good thing

i'd like to make an intelligent comment regarding david irving, but I can't since I don't really know what's going on with him. eventually the truth will come out. it always does.

Looks like a lot of us jumped the gun on attacking Irving. Talk about have some of this on our face.

Glad to hear David Irving is seeking proper treatment at a rehab clinic. That certainly is excusable for missing the start of training camp. Hope he gets well. Cowboys need him fully healthy.

Also hope Goodell realizes Irving's mental issues and how he is taking the necessary steps to properly rehab himself. Hope Goodell reduces Irving's 4 game suspension.
