That happened a LONG time ago.

The NFL is nothing more than a casual sport for fantasy football dorks now.
Lets see you go steal your neighbors belongings then if everything is wussified. Acutaully...lets see you go break into a house around Fair Park tonight. Youre such a man...act like it. Show how tough you are. Or...lets see you go pick a fight with an instructor at one of the local MMA gyms. Or...are you only talk?

I for one would love to see a viscous open field hip check or against the sidelines

I agree with this. Seahawks in the playoffs used it against Hearns and he broke his ankle during the game. Beasley almost got hipped dropped a few times as well.

This caused the injury on Pollard. I think this is as bad as the horse collar rule. It looks like a clean tackle. If he didn't get injured the game would have been different.

It's the same issue with the horse-collar. You grab and then take a dive while you yank down with your hold This is not the same as changing how the secondary can hit pass catchers. This is just sloppy technique that can be trained away.

Moreso this is a product of the current CBA and how training is handled. The NFL lost control of their product quality in exchange for cash. Tackling has been garbage for a decade.

You can't even do the hip drop tackle in rugby.

Who knew rugby was closer to flag football than the NFL?

Glad I am old enough to remember how this game used to be played, just an amusement park these days.

Why are you looking for tough guys?
Not one of the posters calling the game sissyfied for possibly removing this tackle will go to a local mma gym and let an instructor put them in a leg lock that snaps their leg. Not one.

Cowards.

Notice how they all disappeared now when put in a corner. Like cowards they are.

That is quite the dilemma.

There’s been several more rule changes on tackling since the horse collar tackle. At some point it’s going to ruin the game for some fans. I understand they’re trying to make the game more safe, but you can’t handcuff defenders, making it more difficult to make a legal tackle. Tackling requires reacting quickly. Now you can’t hit high or low or land on a QB using your body weight. It’s getting ridiculous. It’s making it more difficult to play defense.
Basic rules and technique of tackling being taught since 7th grade is what should be used at all times. This hip drop tackle is not the way one is taught to tackle. Those players are wrangling cattle out there which definitely should not be allowed anymore.

The NFL is a lot different than seventh grade which is why tackling rules are changing. Players are getting bigger and stronger. The hip drop tackle has been going on for decades but it’s all about safety these days. With the tackling rules changing players are having to think more or it could lead to a penalty and an ejection.

Tough cookies for them. Time for them to start basic tackling. If they can't basic tackle, they don't deserve to be playing on Defense.

What they've been doing for many years is basically steer wrestling but grabbing up high on a ballcarrier while swinging their body onto the ballcarrier's lower legs, thus leading to snapped legs (broken bones and torn ligaments). No need for that anymore. It's supposed to be football, not steer wrestling.

Hard to break old habits, but they’re going to have no choice or be penalized.

I think the main reason people get annoyed is in how the refs enforce the rules. This will end up leading to more bad calls. Look at roughing the passer. Tell me you're not looking for a flag on every sack? Nothing is obvious anymore. On any hard hit, which happens rarely now, you're looking for the flag. Lets not pretend this game hasn't become softer. Go back and watch some games from the mid to late 80s and 90s. It's night and day to what we see now.
Yeah, big hits are pretty much outlawed now.

Its like the posters that say Diggs should have laid out Kittle when he was bobbling the ball in the 49er playoff game.

Do you guys really think if Diggs would have blown up Kittle on that play that there would not have been a flag?

Pretty much any "big hit" to a receiver draws a flag nowadays, even if there is no contact to the head its is still ruled "hitting a defenseless receiver".
