Nice. OK, I recant my statement. To each there own:

Who put the monkey wrench in well oiled perfectionist emblem
Just to watch these monitors spit white noise through your office space
Automate
I infect jolly gene pool descendent clown clusters
Brushing dust mites off your starving art revolution sound jugglers
Delinquent friend from brick habitat
Bob, weave, stick, move fence and
Pause somewhere in the middle for slick invention
This years brain crop spread spectacular, I ain't mad at ya
Don't stay mad at the caliber
I twist characters like twist characters
Tally up the alley cat aggression
in this Doug E. Fresh infested mess of bassline lust
And automatic B-boy Krylon can combust circuits
Working these war pig cyphers
With Ted Stryker stability and kamakazi chivalry
sponsored links
I alone noble in a worm food feud
Walking dead generation ain't nobody asking for your patience
The grand opening holding me to face the fact
That I knew myself and didn't have to ask nobody else
(Talk about labor) Fantastic planet urchin putting work in
Searching for pertinent verse minus the murderous diversion
Apologies won't lure me to the communal sob story
Nor would I sacrifice lifestyle to benefit jury temperament
This old Green Goblin webcutter butts up against
Crayola daydream landscapes spittin' bedlam
Dead 'em
Charge the villagers nickels and nicotine
To watch them fed to one disgruntled kraken at high noon
(We'll sell popcorn, beer and balloons!)
I got an inkling this gon' be the one children bicker over
It's that Warriors vs. Baseball Fury element
To glitch his motor sensory development
I am a star really!
That big bang *******'s back
With a one way ticket to Beat Street
This all is like relevant, to human-kind supply demand ratios, man learn it
I work past the surface
I work on what I love, I work to service all my burdens
And I work till this here little flat line closes the curtains

And I guarantee you Aesop Rock has had Illmatic in his mp3 player since he was a teen. I remember him on the scene... without Nas there is no him...
Even he will admit to that. New York is big... but not that big.

Diabolic is far and away the nastiest rapper out there today, and one of the filthiest hardcore emcees ever. He crushes all your guys' favorite rapper GUARANTEED. Wish I could post some of his stuff but yeah....it's just too nasty.

The problem with the Hip-hop debate, if you want to call it that, is that hip-hop is so varied its impossible to compare people sometimes.

How do you compare Nas with Andre 3000? Tech N9ne with Atmosphere?

Generally, I think the hip-hop discussions like this leave no room for guys like Danger Mouse, Saul Williams, Gorillaz, and even Jurassic 5 who are all doing different stuff that is somewhere in between maintstream and underground. They're not "thugs" (for lack of better terms) and they're not pop stars...and because of that they get left off these lists.

Is he the white guy who crushed Canibus in a written "freestyle" recently? I wouldn't really call this new wave of acapella battle rappers real "rappers." One of the best guys -- some funny British guy -- admitted he doesn't even know how to rap. A fan asked him why he didn't have any music, and he said because he didn't know how to flow to a beat.

Least surprising response ever since you refuse to like any music other than classic rock or w/e...but I'll play along.

Morrison, as a vocalist, hardly did anything more than talk, and if you reduce rapper to talkers than you either a) have never actually listened or b) are too vindictive to listen openly.

To me, you need flow, a voice, lyrics, and an original persona. I'm not the biggest fan of listening to songs about guns and drugs, but if the lyrics are creative, I can respect it. You can have an original concept but come at it weak lyrically. But a concept helps guide lyrics in many cases.

I'm a big fan of Pac 80% because of his voice. Talib Kweli would be my favorite rapper of all time if he had a less annoying voice. Instead, he's like 25th on my list.

Flow is maybe the biggest thing for me. I can't respect most gimmicky new age rappers nowadays, not because of their ******** lyrics, but because their flows are so amateur.

And most rappers nowadays don't have original personas. Every old school rapper or group had a unique gimmick. It doesn't have to be anything cheesy like this whole BasedGod garbage. I'm a big fan of the early Eminem persona. This white trash kid who was bullied who retaliated by creating this comic book-like alter ego.

I tried to get into all that (I guess you might call it) horror core stuff like Necro, Cage, El-P and whatnot. I definitely respected their skills but it just wasn't my thing. In terms of the "mood" of the Hip Hop I prefer, I guess I'm somewhere in between Necro on the dark side and Jay-Z on the light side. Stuff like The Roots, Pharoah Monch, Black Starr, Gang Starr, Wu Tang, Nas, Em, Pac. But good list. I actually knew Copywrite. I was a big fan of his in high school and his best friend was my roommate in the Air Force. I went back to his hometown of Columbus a few times with my roommate since it was only about 2 hours from where I was stationed. Good mention of Tonedeff. I had him on my list. Was a huge Tonedeff and QN5 fan back in high school, but honestly haven't listened to him since (10 years). I included him in my list because I still respect his skills even though I don't listen to him anymore.
