I'm sure many people hate this type of music, and its not to say that it is necessarily my favorite genre per se...but I still like it a lot and wanted yall to share some of your favorite rap/hip hop songs or artists. Name a list of your top hip hop/ rap arstists if you got one.

There are many artists that are big mainly in only their own respective city or area...and are basically unknown to the rest of the world. For me, I'm from California so alotta the rap music I listen to is probably unknown by the rest of yall that normally follow mainstream.
My favorite rapper is a man by the name of Andre Nickatina. To me, he is the greatest rapper of all time (dead or alive)...but thats just me...

If you like rap and don't know this guy, check him out. He's got alotta songs, and I like 95% of them (equally), so selecting which songs to refer to yall is kinda hard; but heres some songs I like by him: Popeye's Certified, Soul of a Coke Dealer, & Drug Luv.
Let me know what you guys think of this guy. If you like him, I will give you more songs and show you more bay area rappers.

(remember that this music is explicit ;) )

80's/90's Hip Hop > everything else. Back when rap was good. The songs out now seriously sound like a 4yr old could make it.

Casmith will have some good stuff too. He knows the deal.

This is the era I grew up with rap music and it will never get better than from about 86-96. That period had some of the best albums, best songs and greatest rap artists of all time. I don't think it will ever get better than that. If you were into rap and in your mid/late teens and early 20s during that time you were loving it. I still love it now I always will but it is not close to what it was then.

I am not a big fan of rap. However, I do like hearing some rap-influence in other music genre's. This song is a by contemporary Christian artist TobyMac. He fuses rap with rock, reggae, funk, pop... you name it. This song is an example of his rap/rock work. I like it.

I grew up listening to stuff like the Sugar Hill Gang, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, etc.

The stuff out today is mostly garbage. However, I do like a few new artists. J. Cole is pretty good, and I just found this new guy named Nick Javas who is great.

Other than that, I listen mostly to what Rynie posted - Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Mobb Deep...old stuff from the 80s and 90s and their newer releases.

I also think there is a difference between rap and hip-hop...but that's a whole different discussion.

Gang Starr, EPMD, Public Enemy, The Pharcyde, Mobb Deep, KRS-One, Beastie Boys, Eric B & Rakim, NWA, Tribe Called Quest, Talib Q, The Roots, Del, Black Star, Mos Def...

Loved "early" albums by Cypress Hill, Nas, Wu-Tang, 2-Pac, Outkast, Dre/Snoop, Ice Cube, Bone Thugs, Luniz, Lost Boys, etc..

Current (or more current) stuff is mostly garbage IMO...but I can listen to some underground stuff, or alternative hip hop.....absolutely nothing top 40 though.

Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Hieroglyphics, etc...

This guy know the deal! I got to see KRS-one a year ago. Good show. Common and Talib Kwali was good too. Ironically, Black Eyed Peas (I know, I know) in 2002 was a GREAT show. Pre-fergie, back when they actually were hip hop, and not POP.

ugh, every time this thread type gets started it is always the same thing, the anti rap crowd chimes in saying it is spelled crap, the 27-35 year old crowd says everything they listened to when they were young is the best and now everything sucks and then name all the artist that no longer make music or are irrelevant. there were plenty of crappy songs and artists played regularly you just dont remember them because they fell by the way side just as the crap comes out now will as well.
