Well I will end up looking stupid when norv is announced tomorrow but here goes my reasoning for Ron Rivera.

First let me say this Norv Turner and Wade Phillips are great coordinators. You can not argue anything they have done. Second, they are not wanted candidates, they are not guys other teams are attempting to steal away from other teams. IE-Jason Garret. So in this sense, players must know that and other coaches must know that....so to quote Steve Young "Perception is Reality"

Jerry Please do the Courageous thing and hire Ron Rivera.

Lets look closer at Ron Rivera.
He played for the Chicago Bears from 1984-1992.
He was quality control coach for the bears.
Then in 1999 a bright young mind was hired in Philly, Andy Reid, that smart coach kept Jim Johnson the defensive coordinator.

THe eagles then hired Ron rivera to coach their linebackers which he did from 99-03. He is credited with turning around jeremiah trotter and helping him develop.

He then went back to Chicago when hired by lovie smith to be the Defensive coordinator. His defenses have been outstanding for two seasons. They have played well even with key injuries.

So, currently at valley ranch Bill Parcells is helping out Jerry and Stephen Jones find a succesor. So he still has some input.

Here is my first clue that maybe rivera is the guy. Jerry told norm hitzges two weeks ago, that he wants Roy Williams playing closer to the line of scrimmage and possibly trying henry at fs.

Well Ron Rivera played in Buddy Ryans 46. He coached under Jim Johnsons variation of it in Philly. He now coaches Lovie Smith's Tampa 2.

Whats the indicator there? Multiple fronts. The ability to adjust. The background in diverse defensive applications. We have 34 personnel but could play multiple fronts, including the 46 putting roy williams in the box. Just like Rex Ryan does in Baltimore, 34 personnell with multiple looks.

So lets look if parcells were to evaluate him. Parcells has been complimenting Jim Johnson and Andy reid for 4 years. Rivera earned his stripes as a coach under those two.

Rivera played for other men Parcells respects. Buddy Ryan and Mike Ditka.

So I would imagine parcells would give two thumbs up, after all rivera is a linebackers coach who played and coached old school tough defense.

So now lets look at Riveras peers. He played with Mike Singletary and Jeff fisher in Chicago and we know who he coached for.

Now why should jerry hire him again, Its simple.

Ron Rivera brings the knowledge and credit, with his own skins on the wall as a player and coach in chicago. He brings the ability to coach multiple fronts, He is a linebackers coach which is what a 34 personnel team thrives on.

If jerry were smart He would Hire Ron Rivera Monday after the super bowl.

He would let Rivera bring in his own guys on defense if he was not happy with rodgers, pasqualoni and bowles. Hows this?

Ron RIvera Head coach
Mike Singletary Assitant Head Coach/Defense
Todd Bowles Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach
Paul Pasqualoni Linebackers coach. (or possibly back to tight ends coach)

Jason Garrett Offensive Coordinator
Tony Sporano Offensive Line/tight ends...either one

Then fill in the rest of the spots with new assistants, which I wont speculate on like wr and special teams coach etc...

At the end of the day this will give us a Smart, Innovative and Versatile Head coach in Ron Rivera. A fiery driven Assitant in Mike singletary who commands players respect. A young defensive coordinator who has been around and is endorsed by Bill Parcells and Butch Davis and played for and won championships for Richie Pettibon and has the players respect and adimiration already.

It leaves Jason garrett and TOny sporano to run the offense and handle Tony Romo.

Jerry Jones would be celebrated league wide for hiring the nfl's first puerto rican head coach. The fan base would be happy with the excitement of a new young and aggressive crew.

It is the type of hire the eagles or ravens would make. It is the right hire in my opinion. Hiring a new head coach is always a gamble, hiring a coach to replace a legend ups the anty. Why not make the right gamble.

Norv turner essentially replaced two legends in washington in Joe Gibbs and Richie Pettibon. He failed for a number of reasons.

Wade Phillips replaced a legend in Marv Levy in Buffalo and Dan Reeves in Denver. He failed at both spots, admittedly unfairly in Buffalo.

So Jerry make the right hire. Ron Rivera is the right hire. He has league wide respect as a player and a coach. This team doesnt need less discipline it needs a different form of it and Rivera is that form.

That is my two cents. Go ahead and bash me. I will be very dissapointed if rivera is not hired given the available candidates.

I refused to pay Rivera more than the $23 that I have in my pocket.

It isn't hard to make a case for Rivera.

He is far and away the most promising candidate out there. The problem is that he isn't coming here with his replacement already hired.

Shame too. Rivera is going to be an outstanding HC.

He's who I want. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm not sure about that. He campaigned pretty hard for the job. If he's confident in his abilities, he would come here regardless.

If he was offered the job he'd come.

And then if he was successful there would be no way Jerry would replace him.

Hey man no bashing here, nice insightful read with good reasoning, I've wanted Rivera all along, this makes me want him to be the HC even more.

I wish you could find a way to get your case to Jerry directly, it's a nice sales pitch. However, you never know what Jerry will do that's what's scary.

Doesn't Rivera prefer a 4-3???Norv is an offensive minded coach so I think he will let the DC do their jobs unlike Parcells who liked to undercut Zimmer. Everyone will state that Zimmers vaunted 4-3 sucked, but he never had the talent of defense that the Cowboys certainly enjoy. Isn't Mike Singletary the linebackers coach for San Fran? Maybe Turner can bring him on board as the new DC.

I think you meant he didn't campaign after JG got here. That may be because he's preparing for a SB, though, and not because of JG.

yes. my mistake. the point I was trying to make was that he was hot on the job early. But now that Jerry has hired the HC in waiting, he may have less interest.

Don't get me wrong - my #1 choice for HC is Rivera. After that I like Ryan. After that, I guess Phillips. After that? Screw it, just hire Garrett.

But I think we've killed any interest by hot young guys with the Garrett hiring .

Flip Ryan and Rivera and I feel the same way. I honestly think Rivera stopped campaigning though once the teams went back to work. As expected, all the coaches and players disappeared from the media around Wednesday or so. He was way too excited to have changed his mind too easily.

I also believe the "JG is guaranteed to be HC in 2 years" is a little overblown. I just think there was a connection with Jerry and he viewed him as a young up and comer.

I'd like to think that. But JG is part of the interviews with HC candidates now. That says something......

I don't know a whole lot about the HC interviewing process. I wonder if Cam Cameron interviewed with Capers. Or if Kiffen with Ryan. I'm sure it's not uncommon to interview with a coordinator that is already in place. That would make sense because they'd probably want to know them farily well before accepting an offer.

None of us know what he prefers, but the important thing is having played for the bears with ryans 46 and coached under jim johnsons variation of that in Philly for 4 years he knows multiple defenses. Throw in his time with lovie smith's tampa 2 and he is versatile.

Todd Bowles and Mike singeltary could run the 34 aspect of it they were hired/kept on staff.
