Video: Hitchens facemask penalty vs Miami

I loved how after almost every flag there was a long 30 second to 1 minute discussion.

Guess the refs need preseason more than the players. What a horrible call IN the redzone.

Their announcer kept saying, "And they'll get the ball at the 20 because of the touchback" on kicks after he earlier explained that the kicks now start at the 25 yard line on touchbacks. In other words, he read something someone told him to read early on, but didn't pay attention to it beyond that. Even worse, neither of the other two announcers corrected him, either directly or during commercials.

Then there was a play where Dak got a little pressure and rolled out to his left and the announcer said, "See, Romo would have been sacked right there." and it wasn't even a near sack situation and Romo has escaped much worse than that.

To add to the insanity they even mentioned that Prescott had a tough debut last week against the Rams because of the passrush - and that hopefully he can make something happen during this game. What idiots.

What's more maddening is that we have instant replay for pretty much everything but penalties, to the claim that it "drags the game out" personally, I'd be more than happy to "drag the game out" to make sure these chuckleheads get stuff like this right. A replay of that would have taken half the time it took these guys to huddle up and STILL screw it up.
yeah they had a really long talk , then got it all wrong, and gave dallas 2 penaltys !
Many calls in this game were bad.

Reminds me of when he almost got called for a penalty against the Lions for having his facemask grabbed. Lions fans are still upset about that one *sighs*

went to the game (thanks BlindFaith!) and I have to say that was some pretty bad officiating both ways.. the notable calls that stand out were:

Hitchen's personal foul (facemask penalty). Just ridiculous as it is clear as day the facemask should be called against the Dolphins player
OPI on Butler. If you call that OPI you might as call OPI on every pass thrown in the NFL this season
Hands to the face of Dallas Center: The Dolphins DLineman had his hand on the upper part of the center's shoulderpads, the center just made it look worse than it was by tilting his head all the way back
The 1st holding call on the opening drive on Martin. Bogus call
The 2nd holding call on Williams. The defender brought him to the ground after another Dolphins DB runs into the both of them

The BS OPI on Butler was the worst, it took 7 points off the board. And it was clear from the replay the Miami defender actually grabbed him and ran holding on to him for about 3 steps before Butler shoved him off. Garrett was livid on the sidelines, acting it out for the side judge.

And the idiot Dolphins announcers just acted like it was the correct call. Their announcing team really sucks, they are both biased and clueless. I loved how Griese (I think) said we run well because we have such great FB play. You know, if either of our FB converts actually makes the roster.
That's is exactly how I felt. Their commentary was total crap.

LOL. What a total botch job that was. He gets penalized for not only starting the fight (which he didn't), he got penalized for the face mask (which he didn't do).
He showed total restraint. Red Ball has a teaching moment for the regular season.

They miss calls all the time for "both teams" as many love to say. However, missing one so obvious as the face mask call is unexplainable. Also, missing the touchback when the ref was 10 feet from the play and Miami did exactly what he's supposed to look for screams incompetence at best.

How did so many of you have the Dolphins broadcast? NFLN had Moose and Laufenberg, didn't everyone outside of Miami see the same feed I saw?

Those refs really wanted to let everyone know they are there.

What I hate about the NFL is that it seems like when any team has a 2 score lead the flags start flying against that team with a lead. Like they want to keep the game close. It may just be all in my head but that is how I feel.

Walt Coleman was in mid-season form in this game.

I don't get how he still has a job.

Haven't posted in a while, but this group of refs was horrible from the start. I really hope they watch the tape and take note of how many ghost calls they made. If you don't actually see it, you simply cannot call it. How could all 8 refs get these calls wrong, agreeing with each other. Yeah, its preseason, but is this really the best they have out of all the applicants?

They had to justify the need for all of them to get paid to officiate a game.

See you missed those ghost calls, but thanks to there being eight officials on the field, they did not. They saw it all, even if it was only in their heads.
