Tired of the talk that what he did was illegal, how about we start talking about his great coverage on that play? Even without getting his head around, he put himself in position to disrupt the play.

Hitchens, for the most part, rarely looks like a rookie to me. He has instincts, has a motor, has passion. This kid is a football player! I'm excited to see what he does the rest of this season and his growth next season.

as a hawkeye fan that was not thrilled to say the least with that pick, I'll take my lumps now.

in addition to everything you just said,he also played with a high ankle sprain. His performance in the second half of this season simply amazed me, and I didn't think he had that in him even after years in the game.

And the fact that he was playing with a high ankle sprain

Mike and Mike show, the skinny one (don't know his 1st name), kept saying over and over that was pass interference. But Chris Carter just came on the show and changed his mind somewhat. Saying that the ball was underthrown and the receiver never went after the ball. He kept moving away from it, and didn't go after it. And that the defender has as much right to that space as the offensive player. If the receiver went to the ball, then the pass interference would have upheld.

Major props to Hitchens and Crawford for playing sick and playing well

RoMc went out so I don't think we win without Hitchens and Crawford in the game

The general rule of thumb is if there is contact, the penalty goes against the player that is not looking at the ball.

When I first saw the play, I thought we were going to get screwed on the penalty because it looked like Hitchens had his back turned to the ball, but didn't make contact with him.

Of course, the replay shows differently, but it was at the very least close. The only thing that was 'blatant' was Hitchens' head not turned around. But, his hands on Pettigrew were not blatant.

It should have been called, but I can see why they didn't think that way.

As far as the referee announcing the penalty and taking that back...I *have* seen that done before. And it's not that shocking. Big game, packed crowd that was loud...sometimes the communication isn't always the best between the refs.

Dallas got screwed on an offensive PI by Williams that was on a 3rd down conversion. Then we converted the 1st down anyway. Got screwed on a hold on Witten when Murray ran in for a TD. And we got the TD anyway. And Suh was suspended by the league. He is known as the dirtiest player in the league with a *history* of stomping on players and he just so happened to step on the calf of Rodgers who just so happened to be struggling with a calf injury. But then he wins his appeal.

If people really believe the fix was in...I'm not inclined to make them believe differently. They can enjoy the fact that there's nothing they can do about it.

Really? I thought he made a ton of great plays as a Hawkeye.

Hitchens didnt even start the game, he was thrown in there with a bad ankle after McClain went out, and played great. like i've been saying all year, he has been as equally important to the defense as has Martin to our OL.

Has everyone seen this? Someone else posted it here in another thread. You can clearly see Hitchens couldn't turn his head or get away from Pettigrew because Pettigrew had him by the facemask. When he reaches up and shoves Pettigrew, he is actually trying to get Pettigrew to turn lose of his facemask.

Look. It was a controversial play. It could have gone either way. But the refs shouldn't have picked up the flag. If the situation was reversed, and it was the Cowboys on the bad end of a call, this forum would have EXPLODED!

I don't sweat Detroit fans or others complaining because I'm pretty certain we would be doing the same thing.

However, it is what it is. And Detroit STILL had to make a play, and they didn't. Detroit had PLENTY of chances to put this game away. They're up 20-7. You score once more, and you likely put this game out of reach. They didn't.

We beat them. Ultimately, we made more plays than they did. We won. That's all that matters.

If that were the case and that resulted in the flag being picked up, then the refs should have said so.

I love Hitchens and I think he is going to become one of the leaders of this team for years to come. I think he is Ken Norton Jr part II. He just gives our D an overall aggressiveness that I love.

If the draft could be redone, I guarantee you he will be a first round pick.
