Holding back against skins?

What we saw was a very vanilla defense with almost ZERO blitz package and without Radliff and Newman. I know we still shouldn't have given up as many points as we did but I am almost certain the defense was held back in terms of blitz and coverage packages.

The offense was basic but still we didn't execute at all. The staff was too caught up on 1. getting the records (Romo, Witten and Barber), 2. getting Glenn the ball. I think when your objective is anything but winning the game, you will lose unless you are playing Miami.

I hope the team will get back it's form since it will likely see Skins again in two weeks.

I agree. We basically treated it as a preseason game and Commanders were pumped to win a playoff spot.

This is true....I was screaming for us to blitz.

Never happened.

We really ran a basic offense. The Commanders knew what was coming. You could see them at the line basically calling our play. The Commanders had everything to gain....everything to lose.

I'm not surprised by the outcome...disappointed...ticked....but I saw it coming.

Or just a gool old butt whipping by a division rival playing for their play-off lives.

Still hurts, but no excuses. We have played horribe and deserve all the questions.

It's hard to winning on the professional level when 1. you got nothing to play for and the only thing is to stay injury free. 2. the other team is laying it on the line because this is their whole season. 3. playing in poor weather away. 4. You sit some starter which tells your team that you are not concerned about winning this game. 5. No offensive or defensive game planning except "don't get injured".

Throw this game out the window. Move on and have the other teams kill each other first and we'll pick them off.

Oh....we didn't play too well against Carolina (won), Detroit (won)...we did lose to the Phili ( I'll give you one).:laugh2:

Green bay held back also...without Driver and Jennings, but still managed 34 points...i guess its safe to say that Owens IS the Cowboys offense...the ball hitting Romo in the helmet told me all i needed to know about how they were going to play...i've watched a lot of Cowboy games and this was one of the most hideous...one rushing yard for an entire game...a record by the way...pitiful

I think most of the players out there in the wind and rain pretty must was just try not to get hurt. that's why the run blocking was hideous.

Something smells like bull****. Either you go all out and play your gameplan with your starters or you play vanilla BS with the backups.

I did not see option c) play bs and expose your starters to injuries on said bs plays

/edit, one other small factor, if the Commanders go on to win against Seattle, and then knock you guys out in the playoff rematch, you guys held your own fate in your hands by allowing us to get into the playoffs to begin with. Hows that for "meaningless"

You mean getting smacked in the mouth play after play and getting you rear handed to you is the best way to "play to not get hurt"?

Unfortunately, this isn't college football. We don't have enough players on the roster, or else we probably should sit everyone. But then JJ would have received a fine from the NFL because Vikes would complain.

Green Bay was AT HOME against a horrible Detroit team that mailed it in after we beat them.

We played on the road vs a team that HAD to win....we were without four PRO-BOWL players.

If you want to compare us to GB, then look at their game last week vs the Bears. Poor weather....they HAD to win to keep pace with us. They even had all of their starters.

They got their butt-kicked....worse than we did.

Funny....because Minny lost....you were in anyway.

So "meaningless" is actually accurate.

If you think this is a true measure of our teams, then you're in fantasy land.

We played basic offense and defense. Did you notice that we didn't blitz? We didn't do too much creatively on offense.

I really hope to see you again. I'd rather play you than the Giants.

Nice to know there are still pockets of sanity here.

Yes, it's always possible that the skins end up knocking us out of the playoffs. But if we have coordinators worth a darn then we would be better prepared and able to game plan with more info while you didn't get much new info regarding formation, blitz packages and personel against us. Collins will be seeing a very different defense, while Romo would have more games tapes to prepare with.

the play calling was vanilla but that don't really excuse the poor execution of those plays

This is true.

I will admit, the Skins are a better team with Collins than Campbell.

I feel we got to Collins a number of times today without blitzing. If we unleash a variety if we play them again, then we'll hammer him.

This game was a joke, and the joke will be on Gibbs for thinking it was a Super Bowl. I don't know who I was more irate with, the Cowboys offense, or Gibbs and his approach to the game.

Let me ask you.

Do you actually feel that that was the best our team had to offer today?
Do you feel it was even close to the best?

I do agree with your point. There were several opportunities which have been pointed out on this board which would have easily yield 14 points for us.

However, since we didn't "game plan", many of the plays we ran were very predictable. In the NFL, unless you are down right dominating like the 93 Cowboys (who by the way lost 4 games that yr), if your opponents knows your plays, it's pretty hard to be successful.
