Holding - no calls

All I did was post the numbers. Seems some folks are upset that they don't comport with their feelings. Not sure why they're coming at me about that. :muttley:

the problem is that those numbers contain no nuance. They basically are irrelevant

The only one making assumptions is you. All I did was post the numbers.

Numbers are not indicative of anything in this discussion. I believe I listed that out and why numbers are not the end all..

Come on, we all know you're the NFL Referees' union rep! :D

So are all the "You can't tell me they don't treat us different!" claims without specific comparison to how other teams are treated.

NFL is RIGGED!!! How much you make each week on your side bets in Vegas sports books refs!!!!

The Cowboys have been the beneficiaries of 9 offensive holding calls on their opponents. That's tied with five teams. Seven teams have received more, 19 less.

It still doesn't account for why Parsons and some of other passrushers are held in plain sight and nothing is being called. Stats aside, refs need to call a hold a hold when it happens regardless of the stats.

Ask the Detroit Lions. Did you know they underwent a similar streak as we did to the tune of only one less game that same season (I looked it up)? So maybe it's more common than one would think if other teams are actually considered to make an informed argument and context is provided. Coincidentally, I see that's what folks are asking for here in response to sheer numbers. Interesting.

Yeah, Detroit is one of those teams that are not a favorite of either the referees, NY League office, or maybe both. Also I think the word or phrase you should use instead of "sheer numbers" is either "pure number" or "singular stat". As I stated several stats are needed to characterise the Cowboys defensive philosophy and game situations.

Look, both sides of this argument are convinced they are right and neither side is going to change the other side's mind. That's why I generally choose to avoid the posts as they are really fruitless while some are drawn to them as "moths to a flame" in a really dumb attempt to disapprove the other's take on the situation. I'm really surprised someone, like you, who can eloquently make an argument gets sucked into these fruitless threads.

There is such a thing as a smart hold. There have been holds that saved your QB from career ending injury. I understand why O-linemen hold.

The premise is that a penalty for holding is worth it when you are protecting your quarterback from a vicious hit. An O-lineman, his quarterback and even his head coach should accept this.

However,

It's difficult to apply this accountability when the referees won't even acknowledge that the holding happened. In fact, it just emboldens o-linemen to continue doing it.

I've seen the holds and it's an absolute outrage. Even if Cowboys were ranked #1 in opponent holding calls, I can assure you that the number should be triple. I've seen jersey stretches that haven't been called.

And the excuse that the hold didn't occur in the area of the play? It's Micah Parsons! Every point on the field is his area of play. We've witnessed that over and over again......and the referees were there watching it too.

Bet the Cowboys have way more pressures than most of those teams,....which makes it less credible and more suspicious. Look behind the numbers, not just at the numbers.
