Holmgren vs Shanahan - could this decide it

I know the season has not started, but I think everyone will be surprised if Wade is back, even if we make the playoffs and win a game. The two most common names that come up are Mike Shanahan and Mike Holmgren.

After watching the off-season and watching the draft it's been obvious Jerry/Stephen are focusing are players with character. If you look at Holmgren and Shananhan, it looks like Shanahan takes more chances on players who have red flags vs players Holmgren collects. Could this be a factor on who Jerry goes with, if Wade is gone.

Shanahan:

Maurice Clarett
Brandon Marshall
DT from FL that was drafted same year as Jarvis Moss - can't think of his name

Holmgren:

Jeremy Stevens

Interesting topic, I don't think Clarett should reallly be on this list. Shanny new full well it was high risk, and that's why he got him when he did.

Then why draft him in the 3rd round. He got rid of him because he couldn't play.

Even if Shanny was brough on, I don't think he would be the GM anyways. We ALL know JJ got that position on lockdown with... himself.

Both of these guys were no great shakes as GMs. Also, given all the present focus on setting up the 3-4 defense here, it would be a two to three year project to get the right guys in place if they were deadset on running a 4-3.

Between the two, I would have to lean towards Shanahan though. Just don't give him control over player personnel.

I know Garrett didn't have a great year last year but i wouldn't count him out just yet. This is a big year for him and he needs to prove he can utilize his weapons properly and adjust to what defenses throw at him, but i still think in the eyes of Jerry he is the front runner for the head coaching position.

Logic tells me that Shanahan ends up in DC. Simple reason is that Lil Danny will give him final say in personel decisions, dont see that happening in Dallas. Danny will do whatever it takes to keep him away from the Cowboys IMO.

That's a thought. I think Danny should stick with Zorn so obviously he won't which is a good thing.

You can't stir the pot too much on everything. Some things need stirring and others just need to simmer.

I have a crazy suspicion Holmgren ends up with some type of role here next year, call it a weird hunch but if we go past the 1st round of the post-season Wade gets another year imo...

I think Wade will suprise and be here next year

I like how he dealt with this weekends tragic events - From all reports he showed real leadership for me and my respect for him has increased as a result.

I think Jerry will see it that way also - Time will tell

Don't count out Bill Cowher as a potential hire here in Dallas.

Sheesh, how bout we take a look at the discipline and the effort of the club this year before we start looking for a new coach.

What happens when neither shany nor holmgren nor cowher can win here? There were problems last year, its too early to tell if the cancer has been cut out.

A thread like this is what I hate about Cowboys fans!

I will be surprised...if we have a very good season with all the changes? if Wade's defense takes another step and carries this team to the playoffs and a win or two? Without TO? With the new direction we've set?

I'd think Jerry was an idiot to then fire him, break that up, and hire either of those guys, who by the way, haven't won diddly in quite a while.

I'd be surprised and disappointed at starting over with a coach who hasn't done anything special in a long time. Now, if we have our usual December collapse or get embarrassed in the playoffs, we'll be hiring a new staff and going in a new direction...BUT...if things look much better with better results and the Cowboys are clearly on the upswing, Jerry Jones would be a fool to fire the head coach just to bring in a guy who won a SB a decade or two ago.

:hammer:

IMO It'll set us back 2-4 years if we bring in one of those 2 guys. Talk about the changing of system, both offense and defense. I think Jerry is smater than that.

Tim Ruskell basically started making all of the decisions in Seattle because Holmgren was doing a pretty lousy job at it. Then the Seahawks started to get better and better. Shanny actually had much more *successes* with his picks, but probably more failures.

There's no doubt in my mind that whomever is the next head coach after Wade, Jerry and Ciskowski (unless Ciskowski leaves for another team) will be the main decision makers when it comes to personnel.

I think if Dallas wins big this year Wade stays. I'm not going to cheer against my Cowboys so I must be in Wade corner.
