Holy CRAP, what a workout!!!

One of my pet cats, FB/TE/WR/LB Jameson Konz from Kent State, just had a KILLER workout at his Pro Day...

I'm talkin' a 4.38 second 40 yard dash, a 46 inch vertical jump, and a 10'8" broad jump... all of this at 6-3, 235 pounds... folks, that's pure athleticism, right there... even forum favorite Dorin Dickerson didn't put up those kinds of numbers...

How can this guy possibly be rated a likely undrafted rookie free agent?? If nothing else, Al Davis will draft him in the 7th round, LOL... given the Cowboys' interest in Dickerson and Garrett Graham, I hope that Konz is on their radar...

The guy's an athletic freak in search of his natural position...

Another player who had a very nice workout was Baylor's RB/LB/SS/QB Jeremy Sanders... he measured in at 6-2, 216 pounds, and ran a 4.36 second 40... another player without a position, I'm thinking he might make a fine conversion project to safety... he probably won't be drafted, but might be a player to consider signing immediately after the draft... he seems to have athletic skills, he just never found a position in college...

He played LB his first 3 years, then moved offense this year, where IIRC he played some WR, some TE and some FB...

A legitimate question, because he played defense his first 3 years, then moved to offense... but with those measurables, I'd say somebody ought to try to figure out where he should be playing...

We're talking about a very late draft pick, perhaps an undrafted rookie free agent... with those numbers, I'd bring him in for a look...

Phil Mastur, Beacon JournalKent State wide receiver/H-back Jameson Konz, a native of Uniontown, Ohio, played three seasons at linebacker before moving to offense. While he hasn't received much publicity, NFL scouts have taken notice of his size, speed and versatility.CLEVELAND -- Kent State linebacker/fullback Jameson Konz put on an impressive display in his personal workout this morning at the school's lonely pro day.

Because Kent's pro day conflicted with those of major schools with multiple prospects, such as Nebraska, Idaho, Oregon and Boston College, attendance at Kent was scarce. In fact, the Browns were the only NFL team to send a scout.

What he saw was Konz put on an athletic display described as "freakish."

Konz measured 6-3 and 234 pounds. He was timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.46 seconds. Asked to run a second one, he timed 4.38.

Konz also posted a 46-inch vertical jump and a broad jump of 10 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

Konz is considered a prospect to play tight end, H-back or fullback in the NFL. His numbers better the top figures posted by any tight end or fullback at the NFL Scouting Combine. The closest numbers to Konz's were put up by tight end Dorin Dickerson of Pittsburgh, who ran 4.40 in the 40, jumped 43.5 inches in the vertical and had a broad jump of 10 feet, 5 inches. Dickerson is projected to be taken in the third or fourth round.

When the results are circulated, Konz is expected to receive invitations to visit NFL teams for closer inspection. This is what happened to Kent quarterback Julian Edelman last year, who eventually was drafted by New England in the seventh round and became a valuable receiver/special teamer as a rookie.

No idea if he can really play, but he must be fairly coordinated to be able to play so many positions. Maybe he's good at a lot and not good enough at anything?
At the least the guy would seed like a good special teams player.

you would think since they moved him away from defense that maybe he isn't very physical.

i understand what your saying and i agree with you on that to a degree, but sometimes those kinds of players that play multiple positions, arent good enough to play one and be elite,but if your right about him would be a find wiht that size and speed.

i understand what your saying and i agree with you on that to a degree, but sometimes those kinds of players that play multiple positions, arent good enough to play one and be elite,but if your right about him would be a find wiht that size and speed.

And sometimes players who play multiple positions have college coaches who can't figure out where they should be playing... I mean, Kent State had Joshua Cribbs and Julian Edelman playing quarterback for them, the NFL turned them both into WRs... now they have a third NFL prospect that the league thinks will be better off at another position...

To me, that suggests that Kent State coaches aren't real good at putting players at their best position...

And permit me to note that the Cowboys had a fair amount of success with another player who had to move to another position in the pros... I refer to Patrick Crayton, who was a quarterback in college...
