The Colts only had 1 time out. Had the Pats punted the ball the play clock would have run down to the 2 minute warning during the play just like it did on the pass play. So the Colts would have had just under 2 minutes to go the length of the field with 1 time out. Not impossible at all, but I prefer the odds of the Pats stopping the Colts in that situation than the one they ended up facing.
