Home field advantage in playoffs?

We'll have to go play there in the playoffs hopefully. Probably for the NFC champ game. We're lucky to go there during the season and get our feet wet there first.

Getting to the Championship game is about as guaranteed as Bobby Carpenter getting his jersey retired. Look, I get it. We're all real pumped about the last 4 weeks. But lets make it through December and then talk about this again. I just got an email from Jim Zorn, he tells me that they were 6-2 last year too.

home field will likely go through the Big Easy

I would agree, but if you think about it.. all they have to do is slip up once, and if we take care of business against them, it could definitely be ours.

I just want a first round bye.. some may talk about Wild Card teams' success in recent years, but I think that week off and at least one home game would be greatly beneficial to us.

And you know if we get a home playoff game that the place will be ridiculously loud.

How about we worry about GB and worry about the playoffs when it's time for the playoffs. One game at a time guys.

We're fans, not players. We can look ahead;)

It totally amazes me how some of you guys thinking that you, a fan, looking ahead has an bearing on the outcome of a game.

Slim to none. Not the way New Orleans is playing this year and not with the schedule they have left: @STL, @TB, NE, @WAS, @ATL, DAL, TB, @CAR.

While any of those teams could beat NO, they have 2 legitimately tough games left and both are at home. AND, 5 of their last 8 games are indoors. Only @TB, @WAS, @CAR are games where weather could be a factor, but those are 3 "winnable" games for them.

I do think the Saints have a shot at 14-2 or better. It'd be hard for Dallas to top that record even w/ a head-to-head win. Dallas' schedule is defintiely a bit tougher.

I think Dallas gets the 3rd seed with Philly and Atlanta as the 5th and 6th seeds, respectively.

New Orleans, Minnesota: BYE

Wildcard round: Atlanta (6th seed) at Dallas (3rd seed)

Philadelphia (5th seed) at Arizona (4th seed)

But Arizona isn't exactly threatening to play in and Dallas would have a plurality of the crowd.

I would LOVVVVVVVVVVE it to be in Arizona!!! :)

Dallas wins out, NO only loses to Dallas, Minnesota wins out, and Arizona only loses one more game the rest of the season (Minnesota)

1. Minnesota 15-1 (12-0 NFC)
2. NO 15-1 (11-1 NFC)
3. Dallas 14-2 (11-1 NFC)
4. Arizona 12-4 (9-3 NFC)
5.
6.

If the above were to happen, at best

Eagles 12-4
Giants 10-6

Atlanta 12-4
Carolina 9-7

GB 10-6
Chicago 9-7

SF 10-6
Seattle 9-7

It looks like the Eagles and Falcons would be the Wild Card teams. BTW, these two teams do play one another later this year, so one would end up at best 11-5 (at Dallas), while the winner ends up 12-4 (at Arizona)...but it would still be enough for both of them to make the playoffs, at least in this scenario.

Chances are slim to none. We'd have to beat New Orleans in the Katrina dome, and even then it is unlikely because they only have 3 games left (New England, Atlanta and Dallas) in which we can realistically say there is a chance they'll lose, meaning we'd probably have to go 13-3 or better along with beating them. Anybody here really think we're going to go 7-1 or better the rest of the way?

I think we have a realistic chance to beat out Minny for a first-round bye, though. Their schedule isnt quite as easy as NO and they already have one loss.
That was said in very bad taste.

Homefield advantage is relative. Any team, which is playing the best football of all that have reached the playoffs, has the ultimate advantage.

Right now, the odds of Dallas gaining the top playoff seed is about 30% - 40% in my estimation. Hopefully, the team sees that as well and will use it as added motivation for improving itself even more during the second half of the season.

This thread needs to be revisited after we lose to the packers sunday.

I don't see the Saints going 16-0. So the Panthers and the rest of the teams in their division are just going to lay down every week?

They have competition at their heels for that #1 seed from Minny and Dallas right now.

Dude, dont even play like that. What the hell are you trying to do, jinx us???

Lets just win the division and win that first playoff game at home. That is all I really want, just win 1 f'ing playoff game and the rest is gravy.

top ten threads that will get flamed if we lose today.....

True. As I said though I'm not getting ahead of myself lot of work for this team to do before this kind of talk takes place.

Yup...like GETTING IN TO THE PLAYOFFS as a start...

What do you guys think the chances are that the Cowboys end up with home field advantage in the playoffs?

I think many would say we have NO chance. I disagree. I think that there is a decent chance that 13 and 3 gets home field advantage in the playoffs. The Saints are unbeaten, but realistically, they are not the caliber of team that you believe can stay unbeaten. I think Dallas beats them in New Orleans. I think they will also drop a couple that they shouldn't. Its just the way the NFL works.

I also think Favre will be Favre and will cost the Vikings a few games down the stretch, and the Vikings arent that well coached, so I can see coaching cost them a game somewhere along the way. If Peterson gets hurt, they could also befall hard times.

Its hard to stat on a winning streak, so Dallas will probably drop a game somewhere along the way as well.

Lets worry about just making the playoffs first. Starting with beating GB today.
