Honest question, is Rashawn Slater a tackler or guard?

Center or guard for me. Slater is very Martin-esque in that he brings both LT feet and top-notch power inside. He has the tools to shut down the Fletcher Coxes of the league and is an elite, elite prospect there IMO.

He’s completely dominant as a college left tackle but has the traits of an NFL guard.

Honestly, just like Martin he could be both. Martin might have made more money as a top 10 tackle but he is the best guard in the game. To a lesser extent it will be the same with Slater. A good tackle or great guard, whatever you need him to be. That isn’t a bad thing for us as he could start LG and cover Tyron as a LT when he (almost inevitably) gets injured.

He’s my pick option ahead of Surtain and Horn though I think a trade down is the best option.

You had me Amigo until you suggested a trade-down. I doubt Slater will last too many spots below 10.

Just to clarify. He’s who I would pick at 10 if there wasn’t a good trade down offer on the table. I agree that he’s not going outside the top 12.

He is an OT all the way. You could play him at OG, but that would be a waste. Plus there is no guarantee he is as good at OG as he is at OT. Collins definitely wasnt

I can’t imagine not drafting a defensive player but I wouldn’t be mad if we got Slater or Pitts

Slater is a great player, and it’d be hard to be upset if he was the pick at 10.

Play him at LG with Martin at RG, then Smith and Collins as the tackles, and move McGovern to center for a competition between him and Biadasz.

So:

Smith / Slater / McGovern / Martin / Collins

With very good depth and versatility among your OL and their backups.

Very difficult not to be happy with that.

Tackle. He has a successful track record at the position against quality competition.
I am going to put Slater ahead of Sewell. I thought Sewell was the second coming of Tyron but he looked like Orlando Brown in his workout. You took a year off and you come to your pro day looking sloppy. Slater looked great and was taller then expected. I would sleep well if Slater is the pick at 10. I think Sewell might fall if Cincy does not take him at 5.

Slater is the Surtain at Tackle, high floor prospect that is very safe pick.

You got me looking at videos of Holland from Oregon. He seems to be a ball magnet. I just don’t know where to play him. He is like our guy Lewis but bigger and faster. Hope he makes it to round 3.

I think Grant is the best fit for the single high over both Moehrig and Holland. Holland’s strong testing probably pushed him into rd 2, but now it’s makes one of them more likely at 44. I have zero problems taking either player that high, Think both are day 1, impact starters

Like Martin he will probably make a much better guard than a tackle. Good vs Very Good - Great

Probably an upper level OT, but a pro bowl Guard.
Of course, who knew Larry Allen, a college guard drafted out of Sonoma State would be a HOFer at both.

He has quality tape against Chase Young so I think he can play OT at a high level in the NFL. I think he can do both though.
