Hopelessly conflicted about the 2021 draft

Slummer luvin', the son or the dad
Slummer luvin', Defense is bad
Met a guy, had a hurt knee
Draft him son, can't fire me
Nice!
Was more thinking of the Hopelessly.... song.

I really want to see him do that. I baited him with a like, so maybe....

So if 3 CB’s are off the board would you rather have CB #4 or Kyle Pitts?
In this draft that would be highly unusual and with back surgery, Farley won't go top 10 so they would have a decision about him.

It is most likely Surtain will be gone before 10 and probably the only D player in the top 9.

I think this is going to be a pretty crazy draft in that top 10. Many teams needing QB's, 3 WR's with 1st round grades and a highly regarded OT and TE. The Cowboys really need D help and since they need CB, LB, DT and S, it doesn't matter what they take first. Surtain or Horn as the speed CB across from Diggs suits me just fine.

Many are going to diss this post but it needs to be discussed.
Are you guys really confident we are going to nail this draft and get back to playoff contention?

I have my doubts. Last year we netted one primo players at WR which was not a position of need. Now this year we have about 5 positions of need and this scouting staff and FO really coughed a hairball in the draft and FA and our team had zero chance as we saw with all the injuries and sloppy coaching..

So I am skeptical this team is robust enough to over come that in 2021. Just my basic feeling.

Other thoughts are welcome as we all wait for the cows to come home.

Let her rip brothers.

Mods feel free to move this to Draft zone if needed.
Aren’t you glad the Cowboys didn’t draft for need in the first last year? The draft would look a lot worse if that had drafted based on need.

That's the nature of the draft....would be interesting to see where we had Ruggs and Jeudy on our board and whether we would have picked either of these disappointments.

If you dont have the available CAP money to fill gaps with decent pro's you have to draft for need.

At some point we have to accept that to win games we need to focus on Defense. There is always a shiny sexy offensive piece on the board....if the deals right we should even consider trading down.

Yes, if a blinking light player falls to 10, they would take that player such as Pitts or Sewell.
I am starting to notice Pitts and Sewell are now being drafted in the top 5 in mocks. The Alabama receivers are falling out of the top 10. Most importantly for the Cowboys Surtain is the first Alabama player drafted. I think teams are concerned about Smith and Waddle’s size. Also their is like 4 offensive linemen in the top 15. Just something to look at.

Drafting is the best thing Dallas does. They do a very good job and I am more confident in that than anything else. Have they missed here and there? Sure. Have they picked one player over another that they shouldn't have? Yes. Overall the last few years their drafting has been very good. I think as fans we are locked in on Dallas but don't really look at how other teams draft. Dallas has been near the top of the league probably the last decade.

There is a chance one of the bama receivers slide, but not two. It's my understanding, many like Waddle higher then Smith. Think Miami, Philly and the Lions will take the top 3 receivers.

It is a huge mistake to reach based on need. It is almost always a poor decision.

Pitts, Sewell or Slater are most likely better players than any defender we would take at #10.

Cowboys FO has had solid drafts under WIll McClay. I've been happy.
However, coaching, player health, and experience seem to be the problem.
Didn't last year Dallas have the youngest starters in the NFL?

We need to get some talent on defense though. It's not a need for position but it is
for the side of the ball. Give me best defensive player available first three rounds.

I also think Tyron Smith will be healthy and play the entire season next year.

I hope you are right. The Eagles have not drafted a good receiver since Jackson.

I don’t think Pitts and Slater are that much better then Surtain especially to the Cowboys. Pitts is a tight end and let’s be real the best tight ends in the league are not first round picks. Slater is good but the Cowboys believe they don’t have any holes on the offensive line. Sewell is probably the best talent in the draft next to Trevor Lawrence. Surtain walks in as our number 1 cornerback I just don’t see the Cowboys passing that up.

None of the players named are rated all that far apart. Surtain is a fine player.

Yeah fans act like this the same situation with Ceedee and the LSU pass rusher. Surtain is not falling below 12 and could go as high as 7.

And it's a bigger mistake to continuously ignore need!!!! That's one of the primary reasons we're an 8-8 team.

It needs to be a combination of both most of the time. Though in 1977 the Cowboys drafted pretty much solely for need, they were already a very good team with Pearson, et al at running back but they NEEDED the "breakaway" running back to put them to the point they needed to be. And it worked out great. But that's the exception.

Not much in the NFL is 100% on way or the other, certainly not drafting for need or bpa...
