Houshmandzadeh: It's about the money

:laugh2: FINALLY! Someone came out and said it plain and clear!

T.J. said he would pick best offer over best team

As we await the decision from free agent receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh on where he will play next season, I'm not quite sure where he will end up, although it seems pretty clear it will be the Vikings or the Bengals.

On the surface, it seems the Vikings have much more to offer: A strong defense, strong running game, a chance to make a playoff run. But in the end, his decision could come down to the money he's offered. If that's the case, Houshmandzadeh made it known exactly how he feels about that in a story that appears in the latest issue of ESPN the magazine.

The story focuses on whether NFL teams believe they can use "hometown discounts" to their advantage when attempting to re-sign their free agents. Matt Birk is mentioned prominently in the story, but the last quote comes from Houshmandzadeh.

"Ray (Lewis) spoke for all of us when he said, 'If you don't play less, you don't take less (money),'" Houshmandzadeh said. "I'm nervous about leaving Cincinnati. It will be a huge adjustment, like being a rookie all over again. Moving, getting to know everyone, learning a new team, new players, new coaches, new system -- I can see why guys would take less to stay. But if I have to make a choice between the best team and the best money? I'm not stupid, man. I'll take the money."

This is the time in his career to sign the mega deal. We all would do it. I would just get Rosenhaus to do my deal.

After this contract he wont command what he can command now. Someone will pay... they always do.

He I have more respect for the guy for being honest. I have no qualms about a guy taking a big payday but do not sit there and act like it does not matter.

Well, now we know why Philly dropped out of contention quickly. Bet he was wishing the Skins were pursuing a WR now
LOL

I have made one career decision in my life based purely on money.

It was the highest-paying job I was ever offered.

It also wound up being the worst decision I have ever made in my career.

Money is important, no doubt, but when it becomes the primary factor in a career decision, to the point of diminishing all of the other factors to mere noise, bad things usually happen.

TJ certainly was being honest. But as a potential employer, I'd be equally worried that he may be the type of player who might not put out the same level of effort once the big deal is signed ...

Just my $.02.

Yours was a career decision. Meaning will last for most of your life. His is the next 2-3 years and millions of dollars.

He can take the big money contract now. Sign with a winning team for his last few years and get the ring...

Kudos to Housh.
It is all about the money for BOTH sides.
As soon as he becomes a "Marvin Harrison" he won't be worth much and the owners won't touch him or pay him.

It will be close to the same amount of time for him, but he will be set for life. Where you? Cant compare what we do to what athletes do. Money is just not the same.

Totally agree, and this is NOT a player I want on the Cowboys.
