I have made one career decision in my life based purely on money.

It was the highest-paying job I was ever offered.

It also wound up being the worst decision I have ever made in my career.

Money is important, no doubt, but when it becomes the primary factor in a career decision, to the point of diminishing all of the other factors to mere noise, bad things usually happen.

TJ certainly was being honest. But as a potential employer, I'd be equally worried that he may be the type of player who might not put out the same level of effort once the big deal is signed ...

Just my $.02.
You are correct. In research on what people want out of a job, its exciting and challenging work, growth opportunities, good people to work with and $$ comes 4th. Obviously these things probably don't apply here but an extra 2 miliion a year won't make him any happier if he stays with the Bungles. Minnesota has a chance to be a force. That is where he should go.

It will be close to the same amount of time for him, but he will be set for life. Where you? Cant compare what we do to what athletes do. Money is just not the same.

Had I stayed, yes, I would have made millions of dollars and been set for life.

I also wouldn't have been able to look in the mirror every morning and continue to teach my kids core values without being a hypocrite.

So, at least in my case, the amount of money doesn't invalidate the parallel.

In fact, I'd venture to guess that the amount of money doesn't really factor into the metaphor at all.

It's been my experience that people who are driven purely by money become terrible employees - both from the employer perspective and from the employee perspective.

I agree with you 100%, Joe.

He's honest about it, no doubt, and that is refreshing but I have to disagree with his last statement. He is stupid. If you choose a few more bucks over a shot to be on a better team then you're just stupid.

Not to get political, but this is what's wrong with America.

I don't blame players for wanting to get paid. Essentially, they put their health in danger to play the game, granted a game they love to play. Owners get rid of players when their play start to decline no matter how much the player has contributed to the franchise.

At the same time, the squabble between owners and players over money is really between a couple of millionaires and i don't get caught up with it. What i would like to see, and it will never happen, is for both sides to take a pay cut so the 'fans' don't have to pay so much money to go see the games.

Looks like he's not the only one:

Free agent Cedric Benson indicated during his Monday visit with the Texans that he's more concerned with money than role when picking his new team.

Asked why he'd take a backup job to Steve Slaton, Benson said "The business side here might be better than the business side in Cincinnati." The Bengals would feature Benson, but their offer may be less substantial.

With the way teams cut these guys when they are done with them, I have no problem with him "getting his"

Well... I guess he did take the money. How else would you choose Seattle over Minnesota.. besides the weather of course :)

What's funny is that in the ESPN article, he said he chose from looking at the qb situations as well. Umm... Seattle has a QB? We all know Hasselbeck is most likely going to be released.
