How about Brett Maher?

I’ve begged “you people”not to even mention his name. Now you start a thread about him.

Great job. You’d do great in a dugout with a no hitter going.

Yeah because he is going to read this post and realize he is doing good just now.

I'll use this as a second opportunity to eat my words about Bailey being cut. The FO seems to have known what they were doing.

kickers are mixed bag, a lot of the good ones bounce around before landing long term with teams. Throw in the salary cap is it worth it to spend 3 mill a year on 90% kicker when you can spend 500K on a 85% guy that is young and can become a 90% guy and the old guy that is 90% is on his way to 85% and will lose length on kicks.

He's like Bailey #2. I never in a billion years throught this could would be a step up from Bailey, but he just might be. Not only is he making all his kicks, they are dead on, right down the center every time.

Maher's a keeper. Take into consideration the cowboys ability to recognize and develop kickers over the years. And you don't replace one of the most accurate kickers in the league unless you see him as a special talent (granted Bailey was showing signs of regression late last season). Trust this fo when it comes to kickers.
This is a good point. The Cowboys have a strong history of developing good kickers.

Bailey, Folk, Willis, Suisham, Willis, Boniol, Buehler...all pretty decent

Very impressed with how the team seamlessly replaced Mat McBriar when we thought he was still in his prime with Chris Jones. Year or two later McBriar was out of the league and Jones is still a baller. Same with Bailey and Maher rn.

NEVER ever think this way with kickers. I've vocally supported the move here because my eyes and intuition told me Bailey lost something (don't care why) and his benefit of the doubt ran out for me games 15 and 16 last season.

Maher is proving very worthy. But if he should falter he should go too. There is very little margin for error in this league and you must have a solid kicker. If it's for 10 years, awesome. If it's for 6 games and the kicks don't get home, you assess and move on if need be.

It's not a matter of "thinking this way", as I said there's REASON to believe he can be around 10 years, not that you should count on it or think that's the rule....

To be honest, Bailey has been good thus far as well for the Vikings...he's missed two kicks but overall he's been great for them. If we had gone with Bailey I think we'd be just as well off...except we do save salary with this kid. The rest of the season will tell if it was the right move.
Have you seen Bailey's kicks. He has hit the cross bar and got lucky it went in. He could easily have more misses

How about this kid?

Not exactly "pressure" kicks, but kicks none the less.

Anyone else just love seeing the ball hit the net when kicking from 50+?
Fun fact:

Dan Bailey missed his 2nd NFL kick back in 2011 (his first ever kick was basically a chip shot 34 yarder), but then went on to hit his next 26 FG attempts in a row his rookie season. Sound familiar? :D
