How about Jones for Dre Bly?

I read that Dre Bly was given permission to seek a trade by the Lions. He did not fit their scheme when they switched from man-to-man to more Zone style of play and since this is the last year of his contract, they decided to let him shop around. Given the possibility of Julius being shopped again this offseason and Kevin Jones being out for part of next year, might this trade work out well for both teams?

interesting. a trade that on the surface seems to at least have some merit.

salary cap makes me wonder 1st - how much would it cost to trade jones? any cost to taking bly? do we *want* bly? not sure of his overall achievements but detroit isn't exactly a powerhouse with extras at key positions.

we'll see where this convo goes. : )

Bly had the worst year in his stint with the Lions last year (6 ints). A year in which was the first that he played all 16 games with Detroit. No thanks. I'll pass. Jones means more to our team than Bly could at this point. Chances are that Bly will be cut anyway if a trade can't be worked out for him. I'd take my chances on a FA deal more than trading away one of our own.

If we deal Jones, which I am not sure I want to do, I would just rather get a draft pick. Bly is interesting, but if they are no longer enamored with him then more than likely he gets cut. No need to give them a guy like Jones for a guy who is expendable in their eyes.

trading jones would'nt be expensive as he is still under his rookie contract. re-signing bly would be expensive as cb salaries have went thru the roof.don't see that happeing

A guy that's coming off one of his worst seasons as a pro isn't going to get the astronomical salary that the Clements, or Samuels of the league. Especially if he's flat out released by a team that had one of the worst pass defenses in the league.

And, as I said, Jones has WAY more value on the team than Bly would. A trade like that would make absolutely no sense unless Dalls signed a guy like Turner (RFA SD) or drafted a guy like Michael Bush (whom I personally think is going to be a beast inthe NFL)

Even if we got Bly, where is he gonna play?

Hes not gonna start I wouldnt think, and Glenn is a very good 3rd CB. I doubt he will sign on to be a 4th string corner.

I'll be on his bandwagon again when they either use him or release him. I wouldn't trade for him unless it was a day 2 pick. They've curtailed any worth he might have had. His fault mostly, I know.

Roy is better. I would never deny that.

No, no, and no.

I like Backus and Sims but not enough to trade for them.

Furrey threw a ball at the star. He's a jerk.

You said the only player you want from the Lions was Roy. I thought that you meant you wouldn't place any other Lion player on our roster if they were cut.

I misunderstood you.

Sorry, the thread was about a trade. I wasn't going outside of that parameter. On a free market they have several players I would like.

Just not Furrey. My least favorite player in the NFL right now.

The Furrey thing doesn't bother me as much as the fact that we didn't respond to it by playing any better.

Does anyone really think the 90's Cowboys wouldn't have just steamrolled the Lions if something like that had happened during their time (they wouldn't be losing to the Lions to begin with, I know....but you know what I mean).

We just kind of rolled over.

That's a nice way of putting it.
