Beginning to think MArten is not cut out for tackle in the NFL. I know its early but didn't he play guard at BC? If Free and McQ are our future tackles, it makes sense to move Marten inside where his pass protection problems would be hidden.

i think you have to give a young guy like Marten at least a year to develop at T - he can always move inside - he likely won't sniff the field at all this year, so working at T can only be a benefit. he has experience inside from college and it isn't like the technique he learns for T isn't going to helpful for G.

another thing to keep in mind is that the mold for BC o-linemen is strong, tough, and good technique - Marten was strong for a college lineman but likely needs to build his strength up to get things done at this level. He's still tough but he's learning technique for a new position. So it seems two of his strengths need some time to develop to an NFL level.

Why are fans so eager to give up on a player? It use to be that we waited at least a few weeks into the regular season before we started calling our first rounder a bust. Now the Cowboys haven't even played their second preseason game and already there are calls we should move 3rd round pick (OT James Marten) to another OL position.

I don't know if it is unique to Cowboy fans to expect immediate production from a first day draft pick but thank goodness Cowboy coaches are a lot more willing/knowledeable to give these players time to develop.

Its Aug 16.

Training camp is not even over yet.

This has got to be a record.

i continue to be amazed at how you can tell an entire career for a player from 1/3 of their very first ever mini camp.

while I don't agree that we should give up on the idea of Marten as an NFL tackle, I see the thinking behind moving him to OG, since he's not the fleetest of foot, and was a OG for 3 years prior to his Senior season

and we did practice Free some at OG and McQ, it's all about finding the right fit, so down the road I wouldn't rule out Marten making the switch, but I think Dallas is trying to work him at RT, since he is the ideal candidate for that spot, big, strong and a mauler in the running game and at Senior Bowl workouts and practices, he was showing good feet and since he's a BC lineman, the technique part of the game shouldn't be that much of a task to get down
