How active will we be in FA?

Yeah I may be way off on that. They very well could sit on their hands again.

But they have to find at least one starter on the OL in FA. Anything less is fail.

Anybody have a list of the people that will be free agents this year? I wonder if there will be many worthwhile to go after.

No such list exists. Many players who "could" become UFA will sign with their current teams before FA begins. Players who are not projected to be available, may be released before FA begins.

Way too soon to do more than guess right now. Like a dog chasing it's tail.

I agree with that, for sure.

They (Jerry and Stephen) also said they had no interest in Nnamdi Asomugha.

As I said , for what it's worth .

I guarantee we will be very active this offseason. Jerry can not take another year of missing the playoffs and being embarrassed again this year. We will sign a few free agents and make a splash in the draft.

Grubbs or Nicks would be ideal. Not sure if that is feasible.

However, I'd also see if I could get a decent 2-3 year deal for Dan Koppen. I usually prefer FAs coming out of their first contract on the right side of 30, but I think the OL could use one vet in there. Koppen has won Super Bowls and could be a good veteran influence on the offense.

Probably signs a home town deal with the Pats though.

Hopefully a lot more active than our non-existent off-season last year.

Didn't Jerry already come out and say that fans can rest assured that we will spend money to make this team better.

So i'd be willing to bet we spend a good amount to bring guys in this offseason. As much as we can anyway with all the dead weight on the cap.

Whatever we do, I beg, please be smart about this.

Griffin sucks...he used to be good, but ever since that Pats game where Brady raped the Titans defense a few years ago, he has been nothing short of buffalo dung.

I would not waste my time or money on him.

You make a very valid point. So right now there is no way to speculate how big of a splash we might make if we do not know what players are going to be available.

Thanks for the list JonJon. Some nice dream players in there but I doubt they ever hit the market.

What defense hasn't Brady raped? Griffin is an upgrade over anything we have. Dallas needs more playmakers in the secondary.

less than 10% chance Saints let Carl Nicks hit FA, they will franchise him if they can get a new contract worked out quickly for Brees. New contract for Drew shouldn't be too difficult since you know he will/should be paid around what P.Manning & Brady are getting paid

Until the new CAP is announced, we don't know how much money there will be for shopping. Right now we are about $17 million under the 2011 CAP.

Worth noting that we roll that 17.7 million forward as a credit to next year's cap. We've also got several more veterans we can restructure, and I don't know how much cutting T-New saves us. Best I can recall, the savings was significant.

All in all, we can nail down two impact players and then sit back and wait for bargains like Risen Star mentioned already.

Isn't Colston also a free agent?

Yes, but if you are going to dish out a crap load of money to Brees, don't you think it is wiser to protect your investment? Wouldn't surprise me if Mickey Loomis gets rid of some bad contracts to free up more money

Given how bad we were at the end of the year and how we just created a new batch of bad contracts (Ratliff extension, Doug Free, OScan) it might be a light year in FA with a few more scrap heap players added to the roster.

Now the key is this time if we are bringing in a vet off the street make sure there are some team options to extend him or insist they sign a 3-year deal so we can keep someone if we get a find instead of exposing them right back to FA again.

The problem isn't the players who are visible garbage.

It's guys who are taking up roster spots and content with doing so.

Dallas has more holes to fill than just the immediate OL needs and the secondary issues.

Martellus, Ogletree, Spencer

These are all guys who should be replaced. There are probably more but these guys should be out the door.

True, but New Orleans just signed Jahri Evans, their other guard, to a very lucrative contract. I know Nicks is considered one of the best guards in football, but their priority has to be Brees first. I'd take Nicks or Grubbs!

Except for Evans the rest of the o-line is getting paid very little and there's no reason Nicks can't have the same contract as Evans
