How bad is it for the Commanders??

Consider this blurb from this morning's Washington Post:

For the fifth straight week, the Commanders will have to circle the wagons, pull out every motivational stop, just to beat a winless team. What on earth happens when they hit the real schedule? Including two wins over Washington, the combined record of the Commanders' last four opponents is 2-17.

The Skins amassed all of 198 yards of total offense against the woeful Panthers' defense... they had somebody named D'Anthony Batiste playing LT in place of Chris Samuels after the latter suffered a bad shoulder stinger very early in the game, and big ol' Mike Williams came in at GUARD to replace an ineffective Chad Rinehart, who was in turn replacing out for the season Randy Thomas... and Stephon Heyer was giving his usual impression of a turnstile...

Which is why Campbell was sacked five times in just 28 pass attempts, and why Chris Cooley had zero receptions (they pretty much had to keep him in for blocking)...

A few of the Post's sportswriters are rippin' the Skins' front office a new anal orifice for basically ignoring their offensive line issues these past two offseasons, IMO with good reason... they are in deep doo-doo on their line right now... I'd engage in my usual ragging on Campbell, but really, Peyton Manning would put up miserable numbers behind that line, working with that receiving corps...

Folks, we've got some issues (we've gotta figure out what to do in the red zone), but the Skins are just a mess right now... and as that quote above mentioned, this is the EASY part of their schedule...

And in the easy part of their schedule, they've gone 2-2 against 4 teams that are a combined 2-17... which means the only games those 4 teams have won were against the Skins... I may seriously consider picking the Chiefs against them in my Pick 'Em picks this week (I did pick the Panthers)...

they lost to the niners and bengals in the tail end of last season, then this year they have lost to carolina and detroit.

They came very close to losing to tampa, I am still not sure how they won that game and beat the worst team in the league over the last three years in the rams at home by 2.

I hope shannahan does go there, he is not capable of fixing what is wrong with their franchise. It will just be more of the same star signing and trading because that is how shannahan operates also.

I will worry though if shannahan is hired there and kubiak gets axed and goes with him as the oc and qb coach. That would be a good staff and a good start.

Kubiak's team has lost two games this year because they could not scored TDs from the goal line, so I am not sure how good he is. Although just being a OC is different than being a HC.

I like Shannahan as a coach. I don't think he is much of a GM. I also don't like when guys try to do both roles. The NFL is too complex for one guy to handle two different and very important jobs. Each job is difficult on its own much less trying to do together.

I agree. that is why I think a marriage of kubiak and shannahan if that is a possiblility for someone next year will be a good thing.

Just like I would love to see a holmgren-gruden match somwhere.

Chances are we wont see either though.

It's not bad enough, I want them to be worse. The worst in the league every season. I never want the deadskins to even smell getting better.

Leave everything as is Mr. Snyder, you are doing a great job.

Dear god. I just read the skins might replace Jim Zorn with Special teams coach Danny Smith. Are you kidding me.

ANd if he doesnt get it Jerry Gray will.

Snyder didnt take the team flight back yesterday.

They may have quit by the time we play them, like in 03 when their other hero turned out to be a dud.

Jerry Gray is not a bad choice. In fact he may be a good choice. Of course it won't make a huge difference for this season. The problem with any hire is that Zorn is not only the head coach, but he is also the OC and the QB coach. Any change is going to require several changes in turn. It can get to be a big mess. And I still will not take them lightly when Dallas plays them. You just can't take teams for granted in the NFL.

What's wrong with the Skins is Danny Boy Snyder... ain't no fixin' that (short of a fatal coronary, and I don't dislike him THAT much)...

I imagine some Skins fans have thought of that. It's as frustrating for us as I can remember. I don't know what will happen, but it is clear Zorn is outclassed as a HC/Playcaller/qbcoach and needs to give up some of his duties.

I'm an Orioles fan, and am almost ready to start rooting for a Peter Angelos coronary...

Almost... :D

Snyder is my favorite owner. I love that guy. As a lifelong Cowboys fan, he made the team I hate the most, completely insignificant.

Just read another FASCINATING stat on Yahoo-- the Skins are the first team in NFL history to start the season out with six straight teams that hadn't won a game when they played them (of course, nobody had won a game when they played the Giants)...

And the best the Skins can do-- if they beat the Chiefs on Sunday, which is no sure thing-- is go 3-3 against that cupcake schedule...

The schedule gets considerably tougher for them after that... I just don't see any way they can avoid a 10 loss season this year, or worse...

I've also read that Danny Boy is already formulating his plans for a new head coach next year, hoping to get a leg up on Jerry, who he figures will also be coach shopping... so once again, Snyder's moves are being manipulated by what Jerry's doing... LOL...

I don't want anything to happen to Snyder, he's fine where he is! :D

Seriously, I think it will get worse there before it gets better, because Snyder won't let them rebuild properly. He'll jsut keep putting bandaids on a sucking chest wound, hoping that, "this is the year it all comes together."
