How much leeway does he have with the new staff? Everyday we hear about Hatcher and Ratliff making plays while we hear 2nd string O-linemen pushing Spears around. this is year 3... how long does he hold onto the starting job?

why? tell me exactly what he has done in the past 2 years to justify his starting job other than getting drafted in round 1?

I don't know, and it's too early to condemn any player, but I have a feeling Wade will be a lot less reluctant to play a backup if the starter isn't getting it done.

That sounds weird, because Parcells was the tough and gruff "It's a results business" guy, but when I saw SD games I was surprised at how often the backups worked in. Not just in the nickel, but in the regular defense. And he wasn't afraid to start relative unknowns like Stephen Cooper at LB when he needed to.

i didn't say bench him now.. the post was wondering how much slack he had if he did not improve.

How would any of us know that?

I remember seeing him in the back field often last year, like two steps from a sack on many occasions. I expect him to get sum this year..

Frankly, I wouldn't give the lazy slob ANY slack. He has done nothing to deserve any, except being drafted higher than his counterparts which means nothing in my book.

This is kind of how I see it. He really hasn't done anything in his two years that has made me feel like his starting position is justified. I felt as though he was the second worst defensive player last year, second only to James.

Sarge, did he poop in your yard or something? You have been an outright hater of Spears since he was drafted. It's almost like he was picked over your son and you have a grudge. It could be just me, but that's the impression I get.

How do you know it ain't Sarge's son?

:D

Give the man a break. He's going up against studs like Flo and Colombo every day. Oh, wait.

I was wondering why there was a thread about Britney Spears wearing a leash.

Have you seen her lately? She belongs on one. Or maybe on a farm eating cud.

Problem is, that was OUR backfield he was in, whiffing on a block, while "The Sopranos-Land Con-Man" stood on the sidelines, stupidly trying to turn him into a blocking FB.

any day now, Spears will break free from the residual effects of Parcells defense, for which he was a square peg, or round hole, or something - and - like a pheonix, he will rise anew! Gone will be the days of him being recognized on the field once every 18 months. Gone are the days of him being willing to take out the trash, as it were. Now, it is Spears' time - and shine he shall - we have been assured of it.

He didn't suck for two years, people. He was just a poor fit for the defense he was drafted to play in.

I agree that Spears has done nothing and I hope he is put on a short leash. He talks a good game, but I have not seen any performance to go with his mouth.
