How BPA would you be willing to go?

Let's say that the BPA at our first round pick is a TE, C, OG, QB, or WR.

Do you take them?

Personally, I go BPA with the exception of TE, WR, OG, C, and QB, assuming Dez doesn't somehow get away, which I see absolutely no chance of happening.

We've picked enough TEs. I like our WR corps. I like our interior line depth. The only QB I'd take in the first is Mariota, who will be long gone.

What about you?

Depends on the grade of the WR. Who we talking about. I woukd mind another ##1 caliber WR.

But most likely try and trade ddown.n and add an early 3rd or 4th.

Also if say pick 24 is the above positions and a Dline, RT, Secondary with a bpa grade at 24 I wouldn't mind a slight trade up. Besides hoping he is there when you pick.

I'd take Jason Witten, Dez,, Larry Allen or Tony Romo with that pick. As super8 says, depends on the player's grade. I would not select Devonte Parker over Michael Bennett or Nate Orchard.

This is very true. You can't know for certain that you're getting one of those guys though.

It's hard for me to imagine that we won't have a grouping of players targeted for that pick like last year. Should that pool dry up unexpectedly, I'd look to move the pick even if it's just 3-4 spots. If that opportunity doesn't exist, take the best defensive player on your board. We need talent on all three levels of our defense.

TE - ehhhh? Depends if I think he's a difference maker (not just BPA).
C - Can he play Guard?
OG - Yes.
QB - Yes. Romo's back, age, and salary dictate it's time to start thinking about the future.
WR - Absolutely. Dez may be on a one-year franchise deal and even though Terrance Williams is a decent #2, I would be worried if he was our #1.

If a QB is BPA for us, we grab him without a second thought. I'd happily draft the WR as well. For the other positions, I'd be working to trade back pretty hard, but if I couldn't, I'd make the pick.

Group your players in tiers.
Be flexible to trade up or down.

That should keep you from getting backed into a corner.

BPA with commons sense. TE, QB, WR are three I wouldn't draft in the first. If the BPA by far at 27 is an OT, OG, LB, CB, DE or DT and maybe a RB then I'd say go for it. It is the best way to improve the talent on an already pretty talented team.

I think the team will get enough help on defense in free agency that they can draft BPA in every round. They did it last year and I expect them to do it this year. It is why I'm not ruling out an OL or RB at 27.

The team is drafting well enough to take their best player.

I think this BPA question is a very real possibility the Cowboys will face in this draft. They could be faced with a situation where there may be only one player with a first round grade (e.g. a TE or WR) at 27, and they may not be able to trade down. They will then be forced to decide whether to go BPA at a position where there is not a great need or take a lesser player at a need position.

It depends on BPA by how much. Is that player just rated just slightly higher than a player at another position or is he the overwhelming BPA.

In 2009 they could have drafted LeSean McCoy with their 2nd round pick but already had Felix and Barber. He was the only player at that pick that they had rated as a 1st round talent.

If they had a Center rated as a first rounder he would be somebody the think can play both OG and OC. I wouldn't have a problem taking an OG or OG/OC if that is the BPA.

I have no problem taking a WR.

TE and QB are iffy. They would have to be players the Cowboys had rated as something like top 10 talents to make it worth it, IMO.

At #27 it's definitely possible that only 1 player is available that they have ranking as a 1st rounder.

Obviously, they can used trades to match BPA to need. If the only player ranked as a 1st rounder is a TE, they could explore trade options.

Wow... can you imagine pairing Dez up with ODB? What would opposing defenses do? But yea, I would still take a guard (or a center who is willing and able to move over, which most are) to replace Leary. I think getting a QB in the first would be dumb. Same with TE.

At OG at #27, I like Cameron Erving a whole lot. Really good player who can play just about any position along the OL. Could start right away, IMO.

I also like Tomlinson a lot but that would be in the 2nd round.

Ok. Did we learn our lesson from passing on Shady when we had Barber and Felix?

Who do people compare Gurley to?

If he was 100% healthy where would he go?

I wouldn't be afraid of pairing him with Murray at all.

When Murray is done Gurley will be 24.

I would go OG or QB. We can move Martin to RT if necessary (although I would prefer for him to stay at RG). IIRC, Aaron Rodgers was available at 24 and Marino was available at 27. I think with the rookie contracts being less it is going to be more difficult to have a QB like that drop, but you never know.

I always say BPA that fills a need or an upgrade. I'm sure when Dallas picks there will be a player on the board that fits both BPA and someone who can fill a need or an upgrade.
