BPA is the way to go even if its a WR,i bet the cowboys would have drafted Beckham last year if he fell to 16.

Do you think they had Beckham rated higher than Martin and Mosely?
I'm not so sure they did.
I keep hearing that Martin was rated well above where they took him on their board.

I think Broaddus mentioned that they liked Beckham a lot,he probably was rated over both Shazier and Martin.

Broaddus said Martin was 11, Beckham was 12, and Mosley was 15.
But they may have been his personal ranking...not completely sure.

Kiper's final rankings were
Mosley 9th
Martin 10th
Beckham 13th

.... I would not select Devonte Parker over Michael Bennett or Nate Orchard.

Would take a freak like Dorial Green-Beckham over all 3 without a second thought. Kid is just that talented. Taking chance on talent like that is what got us Dez. With DGB I'd love to see opposing D double Dez. Or put 8 men in box. Offense would be like shot gunning fish in a barrel, too easy.

Highest rated player on the board regardless.

I still think this BPA thing is a made up internet idea. If we truly drafted BPA we would have taken Floyd and not traded back for Fred 2 years ago. More realistically it's "best player available that fits the scheme and fills an area of need"...at least for the 1st 3 rounds.

From your list I'd take the QB or the G but very tempted to trade down and get 2 d-linemen.

Ok. Did we learn our lesson from passing on Shady when we had Barber and Felix?

Who do people compare Gurley to?......I kinda see Frank Gore in him. A bit more physical

If he was 100% healthy where would he go?....... Top 15. Thats without the ACL year happening at all. I think if he is even fully recovered by Pro Day he drops out of 20

I wouldn't be afraid of pairing him with Murray at all.

When Murray is done Gurley will be 24.

I don't consider trading down as going against BPA. They did take the BPA after the trade down.

I see the primary reason for trades as a way to match BPA with need.

I don't know if Floyd is a good example. For whatever reason Marinelli just didn't think he was worth a 1st round pick. Ciscowski was running the draft board then. If you've ever seen an interview with him it's not too surprising that he was not able to get the coaches and scouts on the same page. He does does seem like a manager type person at all. Will McClay on the other hand is obviously much more of a people person. The Floyd fiasco got Ciscowski demoted and McClay promoted over him.

If the choice at 27 from our first round grades came to WR or RB I would take either, QB too

With Dez franchised, probably, it gives you some leverage off the field at the end of 15.

I would prefer if the WR was a real burner, something that would really give defenses problems as they could play us this season knowing for the most part we wouldn't get behind them. how do you then defend the run behind our OL and stop Dez, Draftchoice1 and Williams?

As for RB ( esp if that was Gurley and the knee checks out ), yes completely happy at 27

really only TE is where i would have a real headache if stuck with say Maxx Wlliams, no one else and no trade down. good player but we couldn't play him enough

I think it was more a case of Floyd should have never been placed on the board where he was. As you said, Marinelli didn't like him for whatever reason, so he was never going to get drafted there regardless. But I guess that's more the point I was making....BPA isn't what most people think it is. The Cowboys front office, scouts, and coaches aren't making up a board of just the best/most talented football players. There is a lot more that goes into that board like players specific to scheme, character, and position (amongst other things I'm sure). Basically, I think all of this talk of RB/WR in the 1st because they are "BPA" is non sense.

One issue is that if a player like Gurley is available at #27, then there are probably some teams that would trade up to get him if you didn't want to take a RB. On the flip side, if he is the last player the Cowboys have ranked as a 1st round talent, then it would be difficult to pass on him. They passed on LeSean McCoy in 2009 because they already had Felix and Barber.

When I hear that a player is the BPA my question is by how much. They Cowboys rank player in tiers. I think the rounds are divided into three sections and the designations are 1-1 for round 1 tier 1 or 1-3 for round 1 tier 3. They also have a list of 1 though 120 or how ever many players they have on their board.

In 1 scenario they could have players they ranked as 20 and 21 on the list and both players are ranked round 1, tier 3. In that situation they can pick either player depending on the position need.

In a 2nd scenario they could have players they ranked as 20 and 21 on the list, but 20 is R1-3 while 21 is R2-1. In that situation they pick the player in the R1-3 tier regardless of position. If that is not a position of need, then they might consider offers to trade down.

Let's say that the BPA at our first round pick is a TE, C, OG, QB, or WR.

Do you take them?

Personally, I go BPA with the exception of TE, WR, OG, C, and QB, assuming Dez doesn't somehow get away, which I see absolutely no chance of happening.

We've picked enough TEs. I like our WR corps. I like our interior line depth. The only QB I'd take in the first is Mariota, who will be long gone.

What about you?

I think BPA for Dallas this year SPECIFICALLY refers to all Defensive positions, OL, and MAYBE RB if a) Murray leaves and b) it's Gordon or Gurley (if his knee will allow him to be ready for TC)

i don't think anything is preordained. It all just depends on what players are on the board. Great players drop all the time.
